It's me again God,

It's great to come to that beautiful place of rest as You guide me to green pastures and beside still waters. Thank You my Shepherd for those special, refreshing times. I have loved being led by You this week! Walking in paths of righteousness for Your glory is also great but today as I look at David's psalm, the images suddenly seem very dark:

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Suddenly being in darkness when the power goes out at night, can be a scary experience. It brings a great deal of uncertainty and there is usually a rush to locate a torch or candle and matches. We just naturally prefer to see where we are going, we long for the light!

Sometimes in life, we can find ourselves suddenly in the darkness of grief, depression, complex problems or even life changing health situations. They definitely come to us all and we just desperately want to turn the light back on. Nobody likes the valleys as they can become overwhelming and appear to steal our joy.

The most wonderful thing in the highlighted verse, is the word 'through'. Thank You Lord that I am not staying in the valley but just passing through - it's not my destination! It may seem like I will be overcome but Jesus I am so thankful that I face only the shadow of death because You took the full reality of death in my place! You are my source of salvation and joy as I walk through the valley - I refuse to be afraid of a shadow!

You are right with me in this place so I don't need to be fearful. I choose to hold onto all that Your Word says about You never leaving me or forsaking me. I will trust in You with all my heart, as You take my hand and guide me through the darkness. Somehow when I remember Your presence with me, it's like the light has been turned on and there is joy despite the tears, comfort in the pain and hope that soon I will be out of this place!

I will continue to praise You and thank You as I journey along. I have every confidence that You will keep me safe, hold me up and be my strength.

Thank You Jesus!
Amen.
