It's me again God,
How precious it is to wake and be instantly aware of Your presence! I can sense Your power in the wind I hear which is slamming relentlessly against my window! With just a word from You, it dies down to a gentle breeze! I am reminded of when Jesus spoke to the wind when He and the disciples were caught up in squally conditions while sailing.
"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm."
Mark 4:39 NIV
While the disciples must have been thankful to finally feel safe, their response shows they hadn't grasped that Jesus had come into the world with all Your power and authority, even over nature!
"They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!""
Mark 4:41 NIV
Jesus was right in front of the disciples and yet they really didn't realise who He was! How amazing it must have been to walk with Your Son day by day and gradually get to know Him better! I'm sure the disciples were surprised again and again as they witnessed the scope of Jesus' incredible authority, as Your very own Son! Just the very fact that they had left their jobs and followed Him, shows His authority over people:
"As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." At once they left their nets and followed him."
Matthew 4:18-20 NIV
Jesus also showed authority over sickness, when with just a word, people were healed! Nothing was too difficult for Him! Among many others, Jesus healed a man who had been lame for 38 years:
"...Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked."
John 5:8-9 NIV
Jesus even showed His authority over evil spirits, simply commanding them to come out with His words:
"Come out of this man, you impure spirit!""

As Your Son, Jesus also showed authority over death when He brought a young girl back to life:
"He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" ). Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished."

When Jesus went to the synagogue, He demonstrated He had authority in His teaching as it was so different to anything they had ever heard:
"The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law."
Mark 1:22 NIV
Jesus caused quite a stir at times as he also came with Your authority to forgive:
"Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, "Son, your sins are forgiven.""
Mark 2:3-5 NIV
The teachers of the law who heard this were upset so Jesus spoke to them:
"... I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins."

Day by day Jesus' special followers began to get a picture of His power and authority —they were beginning to understand Your scope of authority. I am so blessed that I can read the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and get to know You too! I am so blessed to live on this side of the Cross, having seen Your ultimate authority over sin and death when Jesus died then rose again, claiming victory over the enemy and making it possible for me to be saved and to be adopted into Your family! Please help me to be aware of Your power and authority today and to remember Jesus' words to His disciples:
"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.""
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
How amazing it is to be Your follower now and to be taking part in this important work of making disciples of all nations! Thank You that I don't do this in my own strength, but I have Your power, for as Your child, I have received Your Holy Spirit!
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.""
Acts 1:8 NIV
