You explored the building until you came across a very pissed looking William, who was drinking tea in an evident attempt to calm himself.
"Hey, William—? What... what did jim say to you?" You asked, going over to him before hopping up on the counter beside him. He hardly looked at you as you entered, just glared down at his cup hatefully.
"I get the sense you're not going to leave me alone. He just warned me to keep on my work. I've been running behind." He mumbled, and you tilted your head in confusion.
"That's why you're mad—?"
"You'd be the same if every time you were forced to shoot someone you saw your dad all over again." William snapped, glaring at you. You quickly snapped back to your right mind in remembrance of what he was going through.
"Oh.... yes, of course. .... I'm sorry. .... anyways. How was your time with Candace?" You asked, in attempt to lighten the mood a bit. You noted how he immediately blushed and looked away, so you laughed. Of course. Count on William to blush at anything at the most inappropriate of times. But you were glad it seemed to cheer him up a bit, at least. You didn't like when he was all grumpy. Nevertheless, he cleared his throat and regained his composure, compulsively fixing his tie.
".... how's Alex doing? And what about Marcus? Anything off about him?" He asked, changing the subject with ease. You smiled to yourself, crossing one leg over the other as you shrugged in response.
"Alex is fine. And honestly, Marcus seems relatively normal? He's quite a sweet kid. Seems quite handy with a phone—- hopefully. He's basically a mini stalker. A friendly mini stalker." You grinned, causing William to look at you, his expression riddled with confusion.
"... relatively normal, you say—?"
"Well yeah, compared to you-" you teased, earning a soft chuckle from William. Which had been an increasingly rare occurrence.
"Point taken." He replied, still looking down at his tea, smiling softly. You gave him a bro hug, smiling at him in what you'd hoped was a comforting way.
"... anyways. I was thinking of going out tomorrow, could you watch the boys? I'm guessing jim has Marcus on lockdown until he knows he for sure won't run off and tell everyone about his big illegal business or whatever. So, in other words, he probably can't come with." You smiled, pulling out of the hug and drawing both your legs up so you could sit criss cross. William shrugged in response, sipping his tea.
"I suppose. I'll be in and out too for- work reasons. But yes. I'll check in on them." William agreed, so you grinned and hugged him once more.
"Yayyyyyy!!! Great!! I feel like I've been here waaaayyyy too long. Can hardly remember what life was like before these walls." You smiled, dramatically clinging to his suit as you looked around you as if you were imprisoned. William chuckled again slightly, before pushing you away. He definitely seemed to lighten up around you, a bit at least. He always seemed so much happier when he wasn't stressed about work- when he was with you, or Candace, or really... anyone but jim. And yet, he killed his own dad to save Jim's life. The frenemy dynamics between the two confused you more than trying to understand algebra.
"Anyways. I'm gonna go get a few things ready for tomorrow, try not to stress about work too much. You're doing good, I'll talk to jim later and see what I can do." You grinned at him as you hopped off the counter, noting his simple, slightly discouraged nod in response. You felt bad for him, things were all doom and gloom for him some days...
You headed out, back in the direction of your bedroom to sort a few things out. While you were in there, you decided to tidy up a bit- however, to your surprise, your plans were ruined at what happened next.
You heard a loud CRASH, causing you to scream and duck for cover. You felt shards of glass scrape against your skin as you remained in your safe position a few seconds more. Once you were sure it was safe, you jumped up and ran to your now broken window. You couldn't see anything, so you ran outside to try to take a better look. Windows don't just shatter on their own. Someone was there, someone was waiting for you to come back into your room so they could throw something through it. You took a swift look around, although no one could be seen. Kicking the dirt frustratedly, you went back inside to your room, defeated. You examined the glass that now littered the floor, before your eyes landed on a brick with a note attached to it. Oh, how predictable, of course. That's how it always is in the movies, so why not.
