You and Jim tried to talk out what to do, however everything you seemed to come up with seemed implausible. Harvey would have had everything thought out and prepared ahead of time.... you were absolutely terrified. Alex's life was in danger and none of you could think of a single thing to do to save it.
William came back into the room, his knuckles bloodied from either punching walls, or possibly people. .... very, very hard.
"Any idea where they are?" William asks, straightening his tie. You shook your head slowly, looking over at him to see if he was okay. You could tell he was breaking down- he was completely drained of colour, like a walking dead man. The thought of losing his brother again was completely destroying him.
"No.... we're working on it though, William... don't worry... besides, we don't know how he survived the first time he 'died'... maybe if all else fails, it'll happen again...?" You say, trying to stay positive and comfort him, since Marcus was too busy thinking to be the optimistic outlook at the moment. You saw William turn his head away, refusing to make eye contact with anyone. He was breaking down..
".... William I'm really sorry. ... we'll get him back... I promise." You hugged him, regardless of whether or not he felt uncomfortable with it. He didn't push you away or flush red or awkwardly tense up however... which meant he was REALLY not okay...
Marcus stood up quickly from the corner, pulling out his phone. You and Jim looked over at him in unison, as Marcus booked it out of the room. Seconds after, you heard a loud SMASH. You were about to follow him out and make sure he was okay, however he slid back around the corner of the doorway before you could make a move.
"Y/n, those messages you've been getting through the windows- when was the last time you were in a room that HAD windows??" He asked quickly, you drew your eyebrows together- he was right, Jim's office didn't have windows, and you've been out all day...
"... Marcus, how did you know about that? Jim and I didn't tell you—?" You asked, and Marcus grinned in response.
"Oh come on, I saw you hide the note in your pocket the first time it happened, I was right there with Alex. We didn't say anything because we didn't know what it was, and thought you probably had a reason for hiding it. And then J-Lo here was telling me to stay with Alex because he thought something might happen to him." Marcus smiled over at Jim, you couldn't help but smile slightly at the obscure nickname.
"So you concluded that the notes were sent to help us just from that??" You asked, impressed with the boy. Marcus's grin widened, his eyes lit up with joy and mystery.
"... that and last night jim left his suit jacket on his office chair. After you guys left i got up and took a little look—" Marcus laughed, you shook your head with a smile. This kid!!! What were you going to do with the sneaky little bugger??
"Anyways. I believe you got mail!!" Marcus concludes, holding out his hand to reveal another note that he must've gotten when he left the room. Someone was waiting for an opportunity to send it- you were so glad Marcus clued in. You took the note from him, quickly unfolding it and reading it aloud.
'Keep a close watch on the ones that you care,
Once Alex is taken they cannot be repaired.
Harvey has a secret he will not tell,
And all I know is he's looking for help.
He can't defeat you, at least not alone,
So don't trust anyone until he's overthrown.'
You stared at the note after you finished reading it, your eyebrows drawn together. So... William's mom knew that despite her warning you about Alex being taken, it would happen anyways...? Well, perhaps she was just preparing you ahead of time... but now you had to worry about not trusting people..
".... so... basically, one of us is like. A double agent?" You ask, looking around the room. Immediately all of your eyes landed on Marcus. Who blinked a few times, before crossing his arms frustratedly.
"Oi!!! Don't be mean to me, I'm just a boy!!!! I got tortured to protect Alex, isn't that proof enough?!!!" Marcus cries in his defence, obviously nervous and frustrated that people were so untrusting of him. Although, to be fair, he did have a phone filled with blackmail of god knows what.
"..... he's right. .... he's just a kid. Look. I'm not worried about us four, we all love Alex and want to save him. She's likely just talking about the fact that Harvey convinced Jim's workers to rebel against him last time, and will do so again... right?" You ask, looking around at the three boys who slowly nodded in tentative agreement. You knew all of you were thinking the same thing, however. It was dangerous to trust anyone wholly right now. .... especially now that Harvey had Alex, he basically could control who lived and who died.
