Your immediate reaction when the window shattered was to turn away from the glass and over your neck and head. However, Jim's was to stand in front of you. Milliseconds after glass stopped flying, jim quickly went to the window, cursing at the fact he once again missed whoever had done this. You couldn't help but smile slightly to yourself that Jim's first instinct was to protect you... you could learn a lot about someone by testing their instincts.
"They're gone, no point in trying to find them now. However, this...." jim knelt by the brick, seeing a note tied to it. You felt yourself tense- you hadn't even read the one that came into your room, earlier. You were guessing it was a death threat, however. You watched as jim picked up the note, examining it with an unchanging expression.
"What does it say?" You ask, knowing he would never tell you anything if you didn't ask. He just shook his head.
"... doesn't make sense. Unless-" he looked up at you, quickly glancing over you before simply holding his hand out, coming to the conclusion that you had another note in your pocket. So, with a sigh you pulled it out and went over beside him.
"Here— i haven't read it yet, I didn't want to to worry in case it-"
"She knew that anything she left behind would be taken by Harvey- so, she got someone to leave things in a way that didn't seem suspicious. I have lots of enemies, throwing bricks in a window is usually seen as a threat. In this case...." Jim stated as he glanced over the notes, your eyes widened in realization.
"You think it was her?? She was trying to help us! But what about the one in my room earlier?"
"Think about it, my dear. She knew she was going to die. So she organized something to help us catch Harvey. But she had to be precise- the exact moment you set foot in your room is when the occurrence happened. For all we know, that could have been actually her rather than a messenger. She could have stopped off to give you the message herself right before she headed back here to meet Harvey. By giving us the message directly, Harvey would not be able to take or change it." Jim hummed, you couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness prick at your chest, thinking that only hours ago she was still alive...
"So.. it's possible she might be sending us other 'messages' then? Clueing us in on what Harvey has planned?" You ask, jim nodding in response. She was a smart girl, planning all of this in advance...
"Y/n, we can NOT tell Alex or William about this." Jim said in a suddenly serious, somewhat threatening tone. You nodded in response, hating the fact jim still felt the urge to threaten you, but we're willing to put up with it. You weren't going to tell them either way. They thought their mom died a long time ago, if they found out she didn't... you couldn't even imagine what would happen. But you knew it would be very, very bad.
Curiosity broke you completely out of your thoughts as your eyes were drawn back in by the notes that jim were holding.
".... so what do they say, James??"

Authors Note:
Hey everyone!! Just wanted to apologize for how short these chapters have been! I've been working on school however I can't seem to concentrate until I get something posted here, hence you may see a lot of typos and/or inconsistencies in the storyline. It's hard to remember all the things I've revealed to you guys about backstories and such so far! I had to skim through the entirety of part one of this book to remind myself everything I've told you guys! Anyways, I'll keep updating hopefully at least once a day for the next little while, and we'll go from there. Thank you guys so much for your support, I absolutely love reading your guys' reactions and opinions on this story so far! Love you all!! 💜💜💜
