You got back to Jim's building, to find him and Alex chilling in Jim's office. Both of them were enjoying the mutual silence; it was nice to see them getting along. However you noticed ever once and a while jim would glance up at the kid to make sure he was alright— whether for Alex's safety or his own, you weren't sure. You understood either way, Alex can be a little sketchy to be around when under stress. However, you didn't see jim as the type to be affected by that sort of thing. He was cautious however, so that must have been what was going on. He wasn't worried, just making sure everything was good.
"Hey Jim, we're back!" you cooed happily upon entering the room. Alex looked up, his entire expression lighting up at seeing his friend.
"Marcus!!! You're okay!!" He squeaked, jumping up and hopping over to him. Marcus grinned and practically tackle hugged the smaller boy; you noticed him wince slightly in pain as he did, however he disregarded it. Alex seemed to notice as well, and looked at him worriedly.
"Marcus, are you okay?? Did you get hurt?" Alex asked, eyes wide with concern for his friend. Marcus of course just grinned happily, ruffling up Alex's hair.
"Of course I'm fine!!! Always!!" He replied. You looked over at jim, offering a slight smile at him, which he countered with one of his own. Heh.. you were a good team. You glanced over at the door, before looking back at jim again who read your mind and waved you off with a smile. You grinned and blew him a kiss, before heading out to go check on William. Maybe you'd have a chat with him, if he was available... you wouldn't apologize for what you said earlier, but now that the situation was less intense, maybe things would be calmer...
You turned a corner, and sure enough you bumped into him. Laughing as you stumbled backwards, you shook your head in fake dismay.
"Seriously, we need to stop doing this." You joked, trying to break the ice a bit. William seemed a bit preoccupied on his phone, replying with a small 'mhm'. You looked around, noting the absence of a certain girlfriend.
"Did Candace leave—?" You ask, a bit worriedly. William glances up from his phone then nods slightly in response.
"Candy-? Oh. Yeup. Said she had something to take care of." Aww.. cute. He calls her Candy.
"Ah, okay..... Alright. Are you texting her?" You ask, for no reason other than simply wanting to know for her own protection. If Harvey was going to go after her, you needed someone to be in constant contact with her. To your surprise however, William seemed taken off guard by the question, quickly turning his phone off and putting it in his pocket.
"Aah- no. Sorry. Just a friend of mine. What were you saying?" He replies, looking down at the floor. You raise your eyebrows and smile a bit, excited that he's made a friend
"..... nothing. .... ah. Listen, turns out something's up, jim has another opposer and it seems like they're trying to get information on Alex and his powers. ... basically, they're trying to get ahold of anyone who's met him and interrogate them until they give up information... so just... keep an eye on anyone who has met Alex— including Candace. Okay?" You say, looking at him seriously, not giving him the slightest hint that this 'person' messing with them was Harvey. .... hopefully. William nodded slowly, seeming a bit more 'with it' now than he had been earlier when you chewed it out.
"Alright- ... sounds good. Jesus... how did word get out that Alex is... abnormal? The only person who would have known is Harvey, unless he told someone-?" William thought aloud, not seeming to notice when you tended up at the word 'harvey'.
".... I don't know. But I suppose it isn't impossible... maybe one of Jim's workers overheard something and leaked information." You lied. You felt bad for making things up, but you had to back yourself up on what you said was going on or it would seem suspicious. William's phone buzzed from his pocket again so he quickly picked it up, you noticed him smile slightly at it.
"Hey sorry, I gotta take this. I ah- I'll catch you later y/n." William said, before answering the call and walking off. You smiled, crossing your arms as you watched him leave. It was so nice seeing William make friends... well, to be honest, for all you know he could have a thousand friends that he just has never told you about. You didn't know a whole lot about him outside of work and family. Nevertheless, it was nice to see.
