Soulmate Au idea: Whenever you and your soulmate look in a mirror at the same time, you see one another's reflection. If they're looking through a cracked mirror, you see their cracked reflection, but they will still see your undamaged reflection.

T.W. Minor Anxiety and Minor Self Hate

Logan hated mirrors, or anything that reflected anything. He would avoid windows, mirrors, puddles, anything like that. He hated what he saw on the other side. Small, skinny, scrawny. The shell of a boy, someone he couldn't be. He'd not looked in a mirror in ten years. Ten years of wildly guessing how he looked, not caring enough to style his hair, or tidy his clothes. Ten years of other people correcting his clothes, telling him how much of a mess he was, how much he needed to pride his appearance, but how was he to do that when everyone kept on about how terrible he looked? He wouldn't be able to have pride in his appearance if he couldn't bring himself to look in a mirror.

People told him that when he found his soulmate, things would be better, and he'd be happier, but how was he to find his soulmate when he wouldn't look in mirrors? He couldn't bring himself to look in a mirror. The whole point of knowing who your soulmate was, was through your reflections. Logan wanted to see his soulmate, but there was no way he would look in a mirror and risk seeing the atrocity that was him.

His boyfriend was the complete opposite of him. He would be looking in a mirror, or checking out his reflection in the shop windows, making sure his hair was perfect, or his clothes were neat enough constantly. Logan was sure Roman would leave him as soon as his soulmate showed up in the reflection, but every time there was no one else there, and Roman deflated, Logan couldn't help but feel happy that Roman wasn't ready to leave him.

Most people didn't date before they found their soulmate, since it wasn't fair to leave both people broken after the relationship ended, but Logan couldn't help but want something with Roman, despite knowing they each had their own soulmates. But when Roman took him on the date, to the top of a hill, with a picnic laid out, and the sun setting behind them, the sky slowly filling with stars, Logan couldn't help but want that moment to last forever. He didn't want to let Roman go, and he didn't want to let the memories of their early dates go. The ones that were awkward but fun, and worked well for the both of them.

They both knew one another so well, it was almost second nature for them to get everything organised for one another. Be it a date, a coffee order, or even an item of clothing. They both knew what the other would want, and it seemed as though they were supposed to know everything, from their little anxious ticks, to the things that made them laugh so loud and hard, they ran out of breath. The things they needed to calm down and relax after a long day, or just the right way to kiss one another, depending on the situation. They knew too much to let one another go, and the entire thing saddened Logan, because he knew Roman would eventually find his soulmate, and when he did, Logan would be left with all those memories, and Roman would replace them all.

After two years together, it was supposed to be expected, that Roman would finally bring up the soulmates conversation, about how they needed to find out if they belonged together or not, and if they weren't soulmates, they should go their separate ways, but Logan didn't want to talk about it. He didn't want to lose what they had, he didn't want to be replaced, or forgotten, he didn't want to have the one person he loved walk away, he didn't know if he could handle the pain. Most of all, he didn't want to explain why he didn't look in mirrors, and he didn't want to be pressured into looking into one.

They were sat together in the park, one hand holding a warm drink, from the coffee run Roman had so kindly suggested, the other hand laced with one another's, when Roman bought it up. Logan wasn't prepared for it, nor was he ready. Maybe that was why he left so abruptly. He didn't know for sure, but he didn't want to talk about it. Not in a park, were everyone could hear them. What if that was Roman's way of breaking up with him?
