This was a free verse poem I had to write for my Creative Writing class, so I wrote it rather quickly.
Also, if you have never seen a red butterfly, look them up because they are so beautiful.

Oh that I were a butterfly,
Detached from my heavy soul,
So that I could travel the lonely clouds
Stretched over my world of grey,
Alone but not lonely.

Oh that I were a butterfly,
Beautiful even to myself
With delicate velvet wings,
Painted with crimson scars
Along a maze of ebony ribbons.

Oh that I were a butterfly,
Light on the wings of wind,
So carefully carrying me
Away from this sorrowful world,
Breaking the chains of my past.

Oh that I were a butterfly,
Free from life,
Free from reality,
Free from the weight of existence,
Free from even myself.

Oh that I were a butterfly...
