An Abandoned Message

This is an old poem that I wrote about a year ago, and I think it fits what I put up here.
————————————————————————

Back in the day,
We learned to watch what we say:
Say something wrong, and they won't let you stay,
But say something right, and they'll never go away.
All this is a game we'd rather not play,
So we have gone mute.

In some past year,
We were taught to be careful what we hear,
In case, into our hearts, it were to strike fear
Or make all that we've known unclear,
But this constant discernment isn't so clear,
So we have gone deaf and mute.

Always told were we
To be wary of what we may see
Because all is not what it appears to be,
As honesty is not our world's key.
All this confusion makes us want to flee,
So now we are blind, deaf, and mute.

Once when we were still brave,
We were instructed to behave,
Or our fates would be dreadfully grave,
But we've been pulled under by this wave,
No longer people you can save.
Now we have become lame, blind, deaf, and mute.

Long before we were the ones they got,
It was the rule to monitor our every thought,
For fear of the day we would be caught.
No matter how much safety we sought,
In the end, we lost the battle we so lonelily fought.
We are brain dead, lame, blind, deaf, and mute.
Now we are completely gone.
