Eunbi finally awoke, squinting her eyes immediately once she opened them from the sun rays shining on her face. It was a bright Saturday morning. One of the best actually. Eunbi could remember everything last night, the love she had found and the loss she had suffered through.
Once her eyes adapted to the light she opened them up a bit more. She barely looked around and noticed that she wasn't in her room, but she was in a familiar room. She turned over and found Yerin facing the wall. Eunbi slowly sat up, careful not to wake up the girl sleeping next to her.
She had no idea what to do. Was she supposed to leave or stay? She didn't know if her parents would be upset, but probably not. They loved Eunbi to death. They cherished her.
"Are you still sad?" Eunbi was startled when she heard Yerin's sudden voice.
"I don't know. I'm a bit better, just feeling down" Eunbi frowned at the bed.
"I understand. At least they said goodbye. Even I'm surprised that they stopped by to tell me they were leaving" Yerin said as she also sat up on the bed.
"I guess I should thank you for comforting me last night" Eunbi smiled down at her legs, a bit too embarrassed to look Yerin in the eyes.
"I think I did a lot more than comfort you, but it's no problem. After all, that's what friends are for" Yerin shrugged.
"Friends?" Eunbi finally looked at her with a confused expression.
"We should go on an official date first" Yerin explained her previous comment.
"Who said I would want to go on a date with you?" Eunbi had a distasteful expression.
"You're not funny" Yerin panicked because she thought maybe Eunbi was being serious but she soon realized she was just trying to make her annoyed and worried.
"You smiled so..." Eunbi had a sassy look.
"I'm smiling because of your beautiful face" Yerin stretched her arms over to Eunbi and pinched her cheeks.
"Wouldn't it be weird if humans didn't have faces?" That was a sudden and weird question from Eunbi.
"I mean if the world started out with humans looking like that then it'd be all we ever knew. If that were the case then having a face now would be the weird thing. It's very interesting to think about that kind of stuff though" those kinds of question got Yerin into a deep thinking environment. There were so many wonders in the world, too many. There were so many questions unable to be answered.
"Yeah I guess. Maybe I should go headless?" Eunbi suggested.
"SinB you're such a weirdo" Yerin poked Eunbi's forehead.
"So how long are we gonna stand here and watch them?" Mrs. Jung whispered to her husband as she stood by Yerin's doorway and watched the two girls joke around.
"Until she's happy. At least Eunbi can make her feel joy and hope. We need to keep Eunbi around, she's the sweetest teenager" Mr. Jung smiled. There was nothing like seeing your very own child happy with the biggest smile on their face, especially when they were with someone they love.
"Well it's time for breakfast" Mrs. Jung paused and watched for another moment before shouting, "Yerin! SinB! It's time for breakfast" she clapped her hands to get their attention.
"Alright we're coming" Yerin jumped off the bed.
"Race you there?" Eunbi pointed to the door.
"Whoever wins gets some of the loser's food!" Yerin pushed Eunbi and took off at the speed of light.
"That's cheating" Eunbi ran to the door that Yerin had just closed to give herself an extra few seconds.
"Don't be a sore loser" Yerin panted. She had got into the kitchen before Eunbi.
"The only thing that is sore now is my legs" Eunbi quickly rubbed her forelegs.
"Oh you're so young Eunbi, wait till you get older. That's when joint pain really starts to kick in" Mrs. Jung laughed.
"Oh trust me I know. Have you seen my mom? She walks like an eighty year old" Eunbi joked. She would never actually say that to her mother nor did she even think that was true.
"Oh wow. SinB has gotten much more savage since we last saw her" Mr. Jung smiled.
"I actually think I've gotten dumber" Eunbi laughed. She knew that wasn't a good sign.
"No don't say that to yourself. You're very smart" Mr. Jung frantically waved his hands, he clearly didn't accept people talking down to themselves. It was disrespectful.
"I wish I could be as smart as Umji though. She has all honors classes and has such high grades in every class, how can someone keep up with that?" Eunbi questioned. It made her a bit worried to see Umji pushing herself so hard, maybe even a little too hard. She didn't want Umji to come crashing down in the end. Her mental health wouldn't survive the end.
"She should be a bit more careful. The end of the school year and all the finals can really get to her" Mrs. Jung was shocked.
"Yeah but she has always taken such hard classes and has always ended up on top. It's amazing" Eunbi had a look of admiration in her eyes, but a bit of jealousy and envy appeared in them too. Her love for Umji wouldn't hide the fact that she also wished she could be like her. She wished she could be like a lot of people.
"Well at least you're still doing well. Doesn't matter who is on top, as long as you have good grades" Yerin smiled at her.
"Eunbi would you like to go hunting with us some time? I hear some new wolves have moved into this area" Eunbi choked on that comment.
"Uh...I'm not good with weapons" Eunbi lightly pounded her chest to help the food go down.
"That's alright, Yerin can help you learn" he offered. Eunbi had no clue what to say or do.
"Uh yeah sure..." Eunbi knew she was going to regret that.
