Age Old Insecurities:
"And we all have our insecurities,"
But these are age old things
Ugliness bleeding through my teeth
Fears made by boys who tell you you're beautiful
And leave
Insecurities that no matter the change
Will continue to eat
Away at the veneer of confidence you pull around yourself
Like a blanket you can use to be someone else
When you question if your voice is too grating
If you're annoying when you speak
If your conversation isn't elating
If you're vapid self worth is leaking out from the validation you seek.
Age old insecurities
bleeding through my crooked little girl teeth
Such things that bring me to my knees
Reminders of who I used to be
The ugly one, maybe the funny one
But never the smiling kind of 'sunny one'
The sidekick when I never make the show
The background noise when I never know
How to be like the other girls
I don't hate them, I hate me
For still bleeding out age old insecurities.
