A Love Like Friendship (This Started As A Song)

Get yourself the kind of friends who say you still look great

When they haven't even seen your face

The kind who run away with you in the big rat race

Hold your dreams when you can't sleep to make

Sure you'll doze when it's all a calmer pace.

Running through dark backyard streets with me

Unafraid of the moments after it's all said and done because we can see

That friendship isn't built off of a requirement to be

In the same place, time, way as we've always been

If you can't grow together, then you're not growing adequately

If you can't share your secrets then you're not loving truthfully

Get yourself the kind of friends who defend your name

Away from the spotlights because it's a damn shame

To be alone playing this game

I hope you find solace in your attempts to stay

Broken and jagged, tormented in your old way

To hold forever is a love like friendship, no matter how long forever might be

To wrap your weak arms around the warmest for comfort is a strength one can only see

When presented with the greatest of sickness remedies, unadulterated family

Get yourself the kind of friends like me

Because then you'll have clearer eyes with the capacity to see

That your sea green envious jealousy

Comes from a place of loneliness and greed

Such a shame you don't have

Friends like me.
