In Another Life It Smells Like Remembrance
Rain come in off prairie gold
As quick tempered as spring storms
Glow yellow in the down flicker light
Catching drops in speckled star hands like nights
That loom overhead in a sea of warmth
Something in the air tonight glows like swarms
Of insects collected around the honey suckle tree
Weeping willows sway for me
Maybe in another life and place it smelt like this
Maybe the sundown reminded me of another life fit
To the pores of my soul, do you believe in past lives?
I do.
Plantation house boards groan, past remnants of what we let go
Summer nights and authority blown
In from South winds, places I've never known
Destiny? Fate? How many places can one call home?
A secret lover? A fate that transcends time
Maybe star speckled evenings in the backs of my eyes
On cool river banks dipping into night
Of softly green grass, toes do often tip
I'm lost in my imaginary nothings again
But what if the magic is everything?
