Back of My Mind

Thoughts kept warmly at the back of my mind

Illusions of memories and stories to find

Hoping to bring to life

Magic in the moments of living, thoughts kept

Warmly at the back of my mind

Like bare legs thrown over swing chairs on summer nights

Warm breezes in the yellow porch lights

Radio static as my family sings

Empty beer bottles and a gentle swing

Hold me close as morning brings

Golden daylight sunrise, drifting from the hills

Holding hands in open paddocks and still

Feeling the summer burn from a tan the day before

Bronzed skin humming against your heartbeat

The reminder you're alive and still feeling

Magic in the moments of living, thoughts kept

Warmly at the back of my mind

Like barefoot in the sand as the sun dives

Nose deep into the ocean shallows behind

A backdrop of purple, pink streaked sky

Walk with me slowly in the eye

Of a slow summer evening storm bringing itself in

The air will smell like a new season

Magic in the moments of living, thoughts kept

Warmly at the back of my mind

Scream loud with me

in rambunctious laughter planned to be

Shared at the best of times, spread out on a clean floor

Play like children and giggle until you can't breathe

Because what more

Could you possibly ask for?

Magic in the moments of living, thoughts kept

Warmly at the back of my mind

I can't wait to start or maybe keep living

Because I have so much love to give

And I promise I have so much magic

To push into warm nights and sunrise and beach storms and

Laughing like children before

The world tells you you're too old for magic.

Hope kept warmly at the back of my mind.
