A MONTH LATER....

HOMECOMING WEEK...

"She said yes," Mindy placed a dress against her, but I stopped listening.

I was too busy staring at a guy and a girl dress shopping. It reminded me of Bennie and I grew sad. This was our last homecoming dance and he wasn't here to experience it. We were each other's date for the last three years and it was crazy how life just changed so quickly.

Darian agreed to come with me and after a few permission slips; he was approved and now Mindy, Jessica and I were dress shopping. Jessica had warmed up to me since she and Ricky became official and I told her I was dating someone.

There was no reason for her to be jealous, but it was pretty evident. After that thunderstorm, Ricky and I had only talked over the phone a few times.

She wanted all of his attention and it was fine, because I spent my afternoons with either Darian or Mindy, but when I had panic attacks I grew to miss Ricky.

"Roxie!" Mindy stood in front of me and snapped her fingers, getting my attention.

"Hmm?" I asked, turning to her as she held a pretty dress to her body. "Are you listening to me?" she asked and I shook my head. "I'm sorry, it's just this is the first dance I'm going to without Bennie."

She sat beside me and rested her head on my shoulder. "I'm sorry," she apologized, "I am so selfish." "No," I stood and grabbed her dress and her hand, "go try it on. I need the distraction." "Are you hitting on me?" she winked and I shook my head, turning her around and smacking her butt. "Go on," I laughed as she quickly changed.

It was a slim fitted dress and it was yellow and pretty. It was perfect for our theme; it was 'A Night Out In Hollywood', so it had to be glamorous and elegant.

"Perfect," I smiled at her and she twirled. "Look, it's backless, too," she squealed. "Oh," I stood, "scandalous."

"It's cute," Jessica walked toward us; a few dresses in her arms. "But if you're trying to get laid, these will be perfect," she handed me one and the other to Mindy. "Laid?" she looked nervous, "I'm still trying to understand if I'm gay or not," she chuckled, nervously. "I think you're bi," I shrugged, "I saw you checking out that cashier at the other store."

"I can't help it, he's cute," she blushed and looked at the dress Jessica gave her. "We can all agree, I have amazing taste. Just try them on, please," she turned to me, "Darian is going to love you in that; trust me."

"Fine," I stood and walked toward the dressing room; Mindy going back in her's.

The dress was skimpy and yet fashionable, I hated to admit that Jessica was right. She did have good taste and this dress would have Darian drooling. We hadn't been intimate besides the first time, because we were never officially alone. I started my birth control and we all had the safe sex talk; he was so embarassed of my mom but it was the only way she truly trusted me going over to his house. We thought it was going to happen soon, but his mom and his sister demanded all of my attention when I got there. They taught me Korean dishes, so I didn't mind but I really missed special moments with Darian and I could tell he was a bit agitated as well; maybe Homecoming would be different.

We had agreed and with parental permission we decided on getting a hotel room. My mom had a double that night anyway and she figured we would be going to the after party at one of Jessica's friends house; she rather me safe with friends, rather than alone at home.

"Like it?" Jessica knocked on my door and I started at my reflection. This was definitely not me, but I did look good. It was a two piece dress; connected on the side and it was royal blue. I turned and saw that my left side was visible and back was out as well. It was definitely beautiful.
