VOLTURI CASTLE "I won't be needing your services after all, gentlemen," said Edward. He shields Jane from the newcomers. "Aro wants to speak with you again," says Demetri.
"No rules were broken." Jane was quick to defend Edward. Demetri's smile suggests he doesn't agree. He's the more gracious of the two. But no less dangerous. "We should take this conversation to a more appropriate venue," he suggests.
Edward spins and places his hands on Jane's shoulders. "Fine. Jane, why don't you stay and enjoy the festival?" Jane opens her mouth to say something but Felix beat her to it. "The girl comes with us." Edward shakes his head.
"That's not going to happen-" Alice suddenly appears, lightly tripping through the alley toward them. She pulls back the hood of her white swing coat. "Alice," Jane exclaims, smiling. Her voice was higher than usual, meaning Baby Doll was close by.
"Hey, hun! Come on, guys, it's a festival." She reaches Jane and Edward, positioning herself in a protective stance, as well. Alice continues, smiling. "We wouldn't want to make a scene." Felix replies, crossing his arms behind his back, "There won't be any scene. And we'll still win."
"But not easily -," Jane mumbles. They hear a feminine voice, "Enough." A very tiny, young woman appears. She shares Bella's cousin's name. Jane wears a dark overcoat, her Botticelli angel-like face peering out from under the hood. Jane her crimson irises.
Felix and Demetri back off immediately.
Edward and Alice step back, as well. Jane can see they're afraid of this small girl but she doesn't move. Her feet stay planted on the floor. Edward nods and calls her by her name. "Jane." Bella's cousin, Jane, looks over at him and furrows her eyebrows. "What," she asks, confused.
Edward gives her a look. Jane tosses Edward an overcoat. He dons it. "Follow me," she says. Jane simply turns and heads up the alley, confident they'll follow. Felix, smirking, gestures for them to go ahead of him. Alice takes Jane's hand.
VOLTERRA STREETS Jane leads Edward, Alice and Jane through several narrow, dark alleys. Felix and Demetri bring up the rear. Alice never loosens her grip on Jane's hand. In a way, Alice feels comfortable with Jane. She knows Jane and her alters will step up if anything were to happen with the Volturi.
Their path dead ends at a wall of bricks. Jane just strides forward and, without breaking pace - drops down into an open hole in the street; it's a drain. Alice follows Jane. Jane looks down, sees nothing but blackness. "Oh fuck no," she mumbles.
Edward comes up behind her and whispers into her ear, "It's alright. Alice will catch you." Jane closes her eyes and crosses herself like The Nun does. Edward takes her wrists and dangles her over the hole.
