Chapter Forty Two

Delaney

"Hi mom." I sat down in front of her tombstone. "I know I just saw you it's just that I sometimes forget to tell you the truth." I sighed. "This is stupid." I closed my eyes and tried to pretend what Axel told me to pretend.

When my father talks about my mother he always talks about her in a summer dress, it was blue, baby blue actually. Her blonde hair was placed in a perfect messy bun. She has her nose stuck in a book, the sun's directed at her just outside the diner window as she sits in the booth looking down. The leaves are turning browns, reds and yellows. There in front of her is her favorite, a chocolate milkshake with a cherry gracefully placed on top.

"Hi." My voice comes out as a whisper.

Her blue eyes appear in sight and a small smile appears on her lips.

"Hello my Laney Lou."

This almost felt too real. Her voice seemed real.

"You want to tell me the truth of how your doing, right?"

She looked so healthy, so bright in spirit. She looked like the woman I knew as a child.

"Right." I cleared my throat and as I did I felt disconnected from her. Something wasn't sitting right with me.

"Hurry, come on now honey we don't have much time." she rushed me.

My eyes shot open and I turned my head to see a truck pulled next to my car.

I got up and I saw Axel already out and the other body out.

"You think following her to her mother's grave will give you brownie points? What are you thinking about raping her here too?" Axel's voice was low. Neither of them knew I was approaching.

"I think she'd be pretty damn happy if I brought brownies. You know about that right."

"I know more than you think I do." Axel grabbed Steves shirt.

"Axel!" I yelled stepping in.

He released him and stopped me from getting any closer.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"Seeing if you were alright." he looked at me now.

"Bull fucking shit." Axel rolled his eyes.

"Axel can you get in the car please." I whispered.

Axel looked at me before nodding and kissing my cheek. "If you need anything I'll be right out."

I waited until his door closed and then I turned my attention back on him.

"Stop with the support. Why are you here?"

"Listen I know my attentions aren't the best but-"

"I heard you on the phone with Hunter asking about shit."

"Ok so maybe my lust got in the way a bit but I promise I'm not like that."

"You rapped me six fucking years ago!"

"Can you keep your voice down!" he got close to cover my mouth and I smacked his hand.

"Don't even." I glared at me.

"I'm trying to be better ok Lane." he sighed.

"My name is Delaney asshole."

"Delaney I'm trying-"

"You don't get it do you?"

"What?"

"The hell you put me through."
