Narrator's POV
"Alright, blue hair. Have you figured out if you want the song yet?"
Lisa glanced up from her phone and looked at Y/N confused. "Huh?"
It's been another couple of days. They were in a different city again and they just finished recording the final vocals for No Good. And since they're really on a tight schedule, they gotta move quickly, so it's now time to go for the next song. A couple of the sisters went out to buy some food, so it was just the two of them here with Dani and Amy now.
"You said you had a song for the beat I showed, like two weeks ago or something, so... are you gonna take it or no?" the Y/E/C-eyed girl asked, refreshing her memory.
"Oh," Lisa muttered out before biting her lip. It's just a song, dang it, what is she so nervous for? Taking a deep breath to calm her emotions down, she nodded her head. "Yeah, I'd take it."
Y/N nodded her head slowly too. "Do you have some lyrics for me...?" It really seemed like Lisa was frozen in spot and she had to drag every answer out of her. She's yet to figure out what's on her mind that's clouding her so much, but then again, she probably won't ever find out because this girl barely ever talks about what's bothering her.
"Oh, right," the blue-haired girl mumbled and pulled up the notes on her phone to show the music producer.
'Wrong'.
Y/N gave the lyrics a quick scan and gulped a little. She felt her heart breaking at the words of the song. It's kind of hard to imagine the older girl wrote all of this by herself, but it did make a lot of sense to her. Even though they were never close or anything (or even just had a decent conversation, to be honest), she's always struck her as the type to keep all her sadness to herself and appear fine in front of everyone. Seeing her almost cry when she was filming their Someone You Loved cover was the first real sign after they've run into again, about how not okay she still is.
And so, she did see Lisa back in these lyrics, about how she put up the perfect mask for the world to see. But she just didn't think she felt so much pressure around her to be a certain way that it's making her feel like she's at wrong when she just wants to be... human. This was a side of her that she's never known about and it really hurt her to see that she felt that way about herself.
"Wow, are you okay?" Amy asked, pulling her out of her thoughts.
She quickly wiped the tears forming in her eyes away and mustered up a smile. "Yup. The song is just emotional."
Y/N looked over at Lisa again and saw the girl standing there sheepishly, nervous to hear what she thinks about the song and if she wants to bring any changes to it. "For my part, you can step up in the booth right now. Maybe we'll adjust the track a little bit but that's fine."
Lisa took the phone from her again and walked into the recording booth.
They tested a couple of things out before the actual recording started. There were a few close calls of a mental breakdown, but the blue-haired girl managed to keep herself together and push through it. They did re-record certain parts multiple times because of the lump that's formed in her throat from stopping herself to cry. It was really surprising how she hasn't broken down yet. I mean, the song in general was already a new level kind of personal and then singing it in front of the person she's in love with and have her hear all her insecurities? Lisa really didn't think she could pull through with that.
Well, maybe that's why she did start to crack half-way through the second part of the song.
"I know I can't be perfect, but one day I'll be close.
And that's when someone will love me the most.
So I'll just keep on trying, I'll do the best I can.
But I can't compete j-just being who I am."
