You poked your head into the bathroom quietly and frowned at the sight you saw. At the vanity sat one of your younger brothers, staring at his reflection in the mirror as tears slipped down his face. You took a deep breath, unsure of if you should interfere or not, but he was your little brother. You had to know what was wrong – especially since he was sobbing in front of the mirror right before his second high school dance. You scooted inside the bathroom, shutting the door behind you quietly. "Jimin? You okay?"
You heard him sniffle before he wiped his eyes, shaking his head as he looked at the wall beside him so you wouldn't see him crying. You came over and stood beside him as he sat at the vanity that was littered with hair and makeup products. Jin had helped Jimin get ready for his second high school dance since you had to take a final exam at college earlier. You didn't understand what was bothering your brother, though. Did he not like his tux? Did Jin not part his hair the right way? Everything looking fine to you – just your handsome little brother whom you adored.
"What's wrong?" you asked quietly. It seemed as if you spoke too loudly, it'd scare him from telling you the truth.
Your brother looked up at you, his eyes red and puffy. "This whole dance. I don't want to go."
"Why not, hun? You look super handsome, Jimin. Surely you can't be second-guessing yourself," you said. "Are you just nervous?"
Your brother shook his head, his face scrunching up as more tears surfaced and slipped down his soft cheeks. "Everyone is going to make fun of me because I'm going to be the only boy without a date." When he went last year, all his friends had dates, and this year, he had heard the same thing was going to happen.
You gave him a sympathetic look. "I never had a date to any dance. It's okay to go alone. You can still have fun."
He looked at you, concerned. "You never had a date?"
You shook your head. "Nope. No one asked and I didn't really like any of the guys I could choose from." You tossed your straightened hair over your shoulder dramatically. "Surprising, right? No one wanted to take all this to any of the dances. Such a shame."
Your brother cracked a small smile at your statement before he looked back at himself in the mirror. "No one wants to take me because I'm not attractive. I'm still 'cute' like an elementary kid or something."
You scoffed. "Oh whatever." You looked at his wet face in the mirror and sighed. "Are you not wanting to go?"
Jimin shrugged. "Not really. But I don't want to waste your money, so I'll go."
You went to say something when an idea struck you. You looked at your straightened hair and the makeup pallets in front of you seemed to call your name suddenly. "Jimin, do you like your sister?"
"Is that a trick question?" he murmured, shooting you a confused glance.
"Does she embarrass you?"
Jimin shook his head. "No."
You looked at him, a grin plastered on your face. "I want you to go downstairs and fish out twenty dollars from my purse. Kim Jimin, you are going to have a date for this dance."
Jimin didn't question you, wondering how in the world you were going to get him a date just an hour before the dance started. He had gotten the money from your purse and tucked it into his pocket so he wouldn't lose it while he paced around the living room, waiting for you to return with some make-shift date. He continuously made sure his hair looked alright and his tux was straight, but why should he bother? No one was going to compliment him, anyway.
