EXT. BLUE BASE - DAY
TUCKER and CABOOSE are standing in front of the blue base. CHURCH'S ghostly form flickers beside them.
TEX: (Her voice still a bit raspy from the voice filter, but firm) As far as I'm concerned, I'm square with you. We're even.
CABOOSE and TUCKER simultaneously turn their helmets to face CHURCH, like a tennis match or something.
CHURCH: (His ghostly form flares with indignation) Square?! I saved you from a life of imprisonment, Tex! I possessed a Red! I nearly got killed again! How the hell are you square with me?! I risked my afterlife for you!
Caboose and Tucker simultaneously turn their helmets to TEX.
TEX: (Her helmet turns to Church, a cold edge to her voice) Because I didn't kill you back at Sidewinder... when I had every opportunity. And I'm still pissed off at you about taking me away from Ghost... He was the only sane one there, and you dragged me away from him.
Caboose and Tucker simul... you get the idea. Their helmets swing back and forth.
CHURCH: (His ghostly form flickers, confused) What did you just say? You didn't kill me? And... you were pissed about Ghost? What does he have to do with anything?
TEX: (Her helmet snaps back to Church, a sharp tone) Nothing! I said nothing! Just... static! Your ghost-brain is clearly malfunctioning.
CHURCH: You know, I don't really see how not killing somebody is the same thing as doing them a favor, Tex. That's a pretty low bar for heroism. My bar is much higher.
TEX: (Her helmet tilts, a dangerous glint in her visor) Well, if you don't appreciate it, Church, I could just kill you right now. See how you like that. Again. And this time, I'll make sure you stay dead.
CHURCH: (Before Caboose and Tucker can turn to him, he shouts, his ghostly form puffing out) No you can't, I'm already dead, bitch! I guess the joke's on you! You can't kill what's already dead! Ha! Take that, Tex!
CABOOSE: (Steps forward, arms spread, a look of profound sadness on his helmet) Stop it! Stop fighting! Can't you see that you're tearing us apart?! WHAT ABOUT US?! We're your friends! We're a team!
TEX: (Turns to Caboose, a flicker of something unreadable in her visor) What about you? You're just... there. And you keep talking.
CABOOSE: We helped you too! We cleaned Tucker's armor! We listened to Church's stories! I even helped you find the store! And what do we get? Nothing! No thank you! No candy! No hugs!
TEX: (A slight pause, then a grudging tone) Well yeah, but... that's just what you do.
CHURCH: (His ghostly form nods vigorously) Yeah, but nothin'. He's got a point, Tex. You're usually all about quid pro quo. You owe us. Big time.
TEX: (Sighs) I did help them get the flag back. That was part of the mission I was hired for. I performed my duty.
TUCKER: (Walks up, crossing his arms) Yeah, but you were paid to do that. You're a mercenary. We rescued you as a favor. We could have just let you rot in the Red Army prison, it wouldn't have made any difference to us. We did it out of the goodness of our hearts. Or, well, Church did. I just followed along because I was bored.
TEX: (A long, cold stare at Tucker, then a sigh of resignation) Fine. I'll stay here as long as it takes to help you guys win this thing. As soon as I have, I'm outta here. And I'm bringing Ghost with me. He's the only one worth saving from this hellhole. (She turns to Church and Tucker) What do you need me to do? I'm not doing laundry, and I'm not making coffee.
