Never Forget

Monday afternoon I decided to leave work early in order to get my things unpacked. I had a stop I had to make first, one I didn't want to do. I wanted him to hear it from me though. At lunch, Kisame and I argued about me being alone with him, but I wanted this last desperate moment to be ours.

"Here's the paperwork you needed to be copied," I handed Obito the stack of papers and made sure he saw the handwritten note that was slide between a few pages.

Obito flopped through the pages and looked up at me worriedly, "It looks good, thank you."

"I'm headed out for the day, but I'll see you tomorrow," I smiled and exited his office as he said goodbye.

Kisame left with all of my belongings, phone included, and headed to the penthouse. I walked down the street and headed to the coffee shop on the corner. Ten minutes later Obito arrived and slid into the booth across from me. He held my stare as he analyzed my expression.

"What's wrong, Asami?" I smiled even though the tears stung.

"Madara is having me move into his penthouse, Kisame is packing my things now," there was no reason to hide the truth of the matter. "After my two run-ins with Izuna, he's worried about my safety."

"You living with him won't protect you from Izuna," he was upset, angry even, and I knew I could do nothing to change that.

"I'm sorry, Obito if things had been different-"

"I'm trying, Asami, I'm trying to make them different," the urgent tone just made my heartbreak even more.

"I know, Bito," I whispered lightly.

"He's due to go out of town for the day Thursday, driving to Kiri, let's meet at the apartment," how could I possibly say no?

"We shouldn't, you know that," I dropped my head and let my gaze trace the circles in the pattern on the table.

"Please, Asami, I want to see you," he was choking the resolve right out of me.

"Okay," I could never tell him no.

"We can leave for lunch together, okay?" I only nodded, "It'll be okay, Asami."

I looked up with a smile on my face, "Of course it will, Bito, we're in this together." He seemed shocked by my words but only smirked at me.

"Always, Asami," he stood up and offered me his hand and pulled me from the booth, and guided me to his car.

A kiss to my temple as he opened my door for me. Not a single word was spoken as he drove to the penthouse but our fingers were intertwined on the console. Every now and then Obito would lift my hand and press a kiss to the back of it. When he parked he kept a tight grip on my hand and I looked at him curiously. He opened my palm and pressed a gentle kiss to it. He closed my hand again into a fist and wrapped his hands around it.

"One to hold onto, so you never forget," his words were soft and tender, and I knew then, without a doubt, I would die for this man.

Time Skip—————————

"Unpacking already?" Madara's deep voice rang from the doorway of his bedroom as I was putting my clothes away.

I turned around and smiled as I walked to him, "Why wait?" I gasped lightly as I was pulled into a tight embrace and he kissed the top of my head.

"I'm sorry," Madara whispered in my ear. I was stunned.

I wrapped my arms around him slowly and leaned into his chest, "I'm fine, Izuna will never break me."
