Monday morning the headline read: Confirmed: Danzo Shimura and son, Ry Shimura both dead. Y/n Uzumaki still unconscious.
Just hours after the press release, a text was sent: she's awake.
Tsunade stood at the foot of the bed and slipped her phone into the pocket of her white jacket. Her niece sat with her eyes cast out the large window. Tsunade's eyes were glued to the pale looking h/c who had been awake a couple of hours now but refused to speak. The older woman had moved from her spot in the chair beside the bed, pacing and pausing, but she hadn't spoken either. She finally decided that maybe there was one man who could pull something from her, that could make her open up.
"Jirayia is on his way," Tsunade finally said, her voice cracking as she did.
Y/n snorted, "Always using him to get to me," she didn't tear her gaze away from the window.
Tsunade analyzed the younger woman and her face shifted into sadness, "Who are you?" She whispered, "You're not the woman I raised you to be. What are you doing with your life? You don't need his money. This is sick-"
"I have a headache," Y/n cut her off, the words making her stomach churn, bile inching its way up her throat.
"Withdrawals," Tsunade acknowledged, "you're going through withdrawals. You've been abusing narcotics and alcohol."
Y/n knew. She knew the moment she took the third dose from the little orange bottle Madara had given her what she was taking, but she didn't care. The alcohol and street drug she helped develop had made her functional. She closed her eyes for a moment and when she opened them she turned her head to stare directly into her aunt's eyes.
"Like mother like daughter," her head moved back to look out the window once again, "or so I've been told. It's funny," she quickly added, "the Uchiha family has told me more about my own mother than you ever did."
Tsunade was crying but now, seeing her niece turning into her sister in law minute by minute. Y/n's mother was a good woman, a bleeding heart, just like her daughter. After her husband's affair was brought to light she had started drinking heavily. Then came her tryst with Izuna, which lead to the drugs, which lead to Madara, though, he did help her stop the harder drugs, his one saving grace Tsunade thought.
"She was smart," Tsunade conceited, "and beautiful. She just wanted to be loved," she admitted, shame quickly catching up, "but your father didn't want to be tied down. When your mother found about the Hyuga woman- she found her own vice. That vice lead her to find the arms of other men. She asked your father for a divorce and he refused."
Those words made Y/n look to Tsunade again, "I was awake that night," Her one voice shook slightly, "it was a couple of months before the plane crash." She didn't like the path the story was taking, the sick feeling in her stomach growing more and more.
"Your father had become a cruel man," Y/n saw Tsunade's face shift, uncertainty filling them both now, "he had tossed the Hyuga aside and decided to keep the company of many women. He learned of your mother's affairs and threatened her. He threatened to take you from her. He accused her of cheating on him and you not even being his. So," Tsunade shifted her feet, "she made a deal with him."
"What kind of deal?" Y/n dared ask.
Tsunade's hands gripped the end of the bed, "A paternity test would be done," Y/n paled, "if it came back that he was in fact your father, he would allow the divorce to happen, and give your mother half of everything. If it came back that you were not- she would stay married to him and give him a child of his own." Tsunade watched Y/n closely, "Your mother got the report the day the plane went down."
This didn't change anything, Madara was still the one who had the plane tampered with. He was still the one to blame for the death of eight people, but this was shocking. She had no doubt that her father was her father, but the little voice in her head pushed her forward.
"And?" She dared voice the question aloud.
"You're an Uzumaki, by blood," relief filled her but she kept her face neutral, "she was going to tell your father, as well as Naruto's parents, before flying back to Konoha on a commercial flight." A heaviness lingered in the air, "To marry Madara Uchiha."
The bile made its way to her throat and pain lanced through her chest and abdomen as she heaved over the side of the bed. The yellow liquid the only contents of her stomach dribbled down her chin and onto the floor. Tsunade grabbed a rag from the bathroom and wet it before wiping Y/n's face and mouth. Dry heaves now left her breathless, the pain unbearable at this point. Tsunade didn't want to do it, but she didn't know how else to help her niece see the road she was on, and the wrongness of it all. Y/n knew most of what had just been told to her, but for Tsunade to say it, to confirm it all- it was too much.
A fresh rag on her forehead, Tsunade pushed a small amount of morphine into her IV drip and watched her niece's breathing steady. A soft knock at the door and she opened it to see Jirayia on the other side. She moved away and Naruto peaked his head in quickly but Tsunade closed the door in a rush to keep anyone else from trying to get in. Madara and Izuna were at the end of the hallway and had seen Jirayia slip into the room. They couldn't fault the family from seeing her first, but they needed their KPD officer to see her before the FBI agent assigned to the case could.
"Everything okay?" Jirayia looked at Tsunade with concern as his eyes fell to his niece.
Y/n's eyes fluttered open, "Just a little family history," she tried to laugh but winced and her hand moved to hold her left rib cage. "How bad is it?" The question was pointed at Jirayia, and he knew it.
"Can you give us a few minutes?" Jirayia asked Tsunade, "Maybe keep the wolves at bay?" How ironic, Y/n thought.
Tsunade sighed, "Go easy on her," she kissed his cheek and left the room, locking the door behind her.
Jirayia walked to the edge of the bed, Y/n's left hand was warmed suddenly and she let her head lull to the side. His lips held a soft smile, one of admiration, love, and worry. A rare sight, his eyes brimming with tears, and her own did the same. His free hand covered his eyes as his back shook with silent sobs.
"You damned fool," he whispered, "it's time to get out," he dropped his hand from his face and looked her with conviction, "no case is worth your life."
Y/n groaned as she sat up and he didn't bother protesting, "Is that an order?" There was no joking tone in her voice.
Jirayia narrowed his eyes, "You know I don't have the authority to do that," he snapped, "they're not letting you out," he added, "not unless you say the word."
Something between a smirk and smile dance across her lips, "Then let me do my job."
Jirayia has never been so angry in his life. Tsunade has no idea what was really going on, but she was still right when she said: she's losing herself. "What's happened to you?" He whispered more to himself.
She fell back onto the bed and took her hand away, offering a one-word answer, "Life."
