Off the Track

"Why are we taking a train again?" Shisui asked as he put the luggage into their assigned train car.

Y/n rolled her eyes at his whiney tone, "I told you, it's less suspicious. It looks like we're just going on a recreational trip, taking a scenic train ride from Konoha to Suna." She sat down on the bench that pulled into a bed.

The train car was split into four suites but only one other suite was occupied due to being a weekday trip. The mini-fridge doubled as a table between two plush chairs across from the couch/bed. Everything was in browns and greens. The ride would take a little over three hours and Y/n was looking forward to some peace and quiet from all the drama that had been going on.

It's been a week since New Year's Eve and the papers were full of rumors about Madara and Y/n. Even after Obito and Rin's engagement made the news, it quickly shifted back to Madara and Y/n. Rin was pouting because she felt like the spotlight had been taken, and Y/n wanted nothing more than to give the spotlight back.

Shisui took a seat next to Y/n and opened his small overnight bag. He pulled out a small metal box that she quickly recognized and she quickly pulled her phone from her pocket. Shisui tossed both of their phones into the box and closed it, slipping it back into the bad before he tossed it onto the floor.

"You wanted a break?" Shisui knowingly asked. Shisui moved to lay and Y/n raised her arm for him to place his head in her lap.

Y/n laughed at the childish behavior but still ran her fingers through his hair, "I've been cooped up in that damn house for months it feels like."

Shisui closed just eyes and let her fingers soothe his own tired mind, "I haven't seen you in ages it seems." His voice was soft and low.

Y/n shifted slightly and leaned her head back to close her eyes, "Madara's been very needy lately."

Her skinny pants were a deep blue and her blouse white and flowy, and long sleeves. Shisui was casual today, jeans and a red polo. Y/n kicked her shoes off and she noticed Shisui doing the same as he got comfy. Shisui peeked an eye open to look at the h/c and found her relaxed and at ease.

"Are you sure this is what you want?" Shisui saw her open her eyes but they remained on the ceiling as the train jerked forward.

"Shi-" He sighed and sat up, making her stop talking. She moved her head from the resting position so they could look at one another.

She could sense the tension and see how anxious he was, "I want your honesty here," his eyes were pleading, "it's just you and me, gorgeous."

"Honesty?" She hummed, "honesty would make life much easier, wouldn't it?" It was her turn to sigh, "Like I've said before, this is what I have to do. He's not pressing the issue, so I have time to figure out my next move."

"You're treading in dangerous water, gorgeous," Shisui relaxed just a hair, sensing she would maybe open up to him. "Obito is worried about you. He's been drinking more, and this whole thing with Rin- he's been hell to put up with. He knows somethings going on and he's pissed he's being kept in the dark. He's pissed in general."

They sat side by side and Y/n focused on the mini-fridge, "I can only influence Madara so much, especially when it comes to Obito."

Shisui looked at her, taking in her beauty again, "I'm worried he's going to get drunk and say something he'll regret." His words made Y/n look at him, "He's already slipped up talking to me."

Y/n let her curiosity get the best of her, "What did he say?"

Shisui chuckled softly and looked down at his hands, "A lot. He told me he'll kill whoever he has to in order to be with you. Murmuring your name in his sleep, followed by 'I love you'. But..." he didn't know how to say it, "he slipped up and told me about the time he followed you to Kiri."
