For the past few days, the castle was swarmed with excited students. The first task had ended, leaving Harry Potter advancing to the next one. Malfoy wasn't too excited about this.

The Yule Ball, a dance held in the celebration of the Tri-Wizard Tournament was being held at Hogwarts. Numerous students had been asking others to attend the dance with them. Elestra had no clue who she was going to ask or who she fancied. It seemed obvious to her that nobody was planning on asking her. She was reading in the library, just thinking about what she should do when Nicole came skipping to her with a wide grin on her face.

"What's got you all cheered up?" Elestra exclaimed,  lowering her book.

"I just got asked out to the ball!" Nicole declared, excitedly

"Really? By who?" Elestra was also excited, she closed her book with a snap and put it down.

Nicole's grin grew wider as she held in the excitement.

"So, when I was doing doing the transfiguration assignment, which was so boring" Nicole began, "I was like 'Mrs Mcgonagle gives too much homework, my grandchildren will be married by the time I finish all this!'" Nicole kept going, occasionally taking breathes, "and I didn't think it was that funny but one the girls from Beauxbatons Academy thought I was- so like I was so nervous when one of them said she wants to go to the ball with me- her name is Raquel Lorperché! And she is so pretty!" She finished eagerly.

"And...did you say yes?!" Nicole had infected Elestra with the excitement, she was also invested in this.

"OF COURSE I DID! HOW COULD I NOT?!" Nicole and Elestra squealed. Miss. Pince, the librarian, gave them a death-glare and the two of them rushed out of the library before she could issue them with a detention.

                                                   ~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a few days, it was the day of the ball. Draco didn't even have a date yet. He was walking through the halls when he caught sight of Elestra. He kept thinking about that night in the forest. When he saw her, she was organising her books, searching for something in her book bag. She seemed alone, maybe waiting for her next class.
Malfoy had a feeling he should ask her about the dance. But, what was he going to say? What if she says no? He gulped and walked up to her, his throat scratchy and heart beating fast. He stopped in front of her, causing her to look up, suddenly.
"What do you want?" she said bluntly, continuing searching through her bag. Her small response hurt his confidence. Clearing his throat, he put on a confident face and began, "I assume you don't have anyone to go with at the ball,"
Elestra's face crumpled, as if she had taken offence, "Are you saying nobody wants to go with me?"
Draco opened his mouth to say something- but she cut him off, "And why do YOU care anyway? Don't you have to go bully Harry Potter or something???"
That hurt him a bit. He wondered why she got all defensive...this was not going the way he planned. "You still haven't answered me, do you have anyone to go with or not?"
"Well, yes- but technically no, but yeah- I mean, I did-" Her eyes trailed off as Isaac approached behind him.
"Heyyy, Ellie..." he said sheepishly, she could tell something was wrong, "I wanted to talk to you about the ball..."
"Great me too! Er, so... you can go first," she said awkwardly as Malfoy just stood there. She wanted to show off to Malfoy how she was going with an older guy.
"Well, you see... you know how we were going to the ball, like as friends?" he scratched the back of his head, "the thing is...Katie Bell kinda just asked me and I sort of uh said yes so... I'm really sorry I can't go with you anymore,"
"Oh?" Elestra exclaimed glancing over at Draco who looked like he did not want to be there in this situation. "Well, That's fine! In fact, that's PERFECT. You see, I was actually just going to go with..." her eyes trailed. "Malfoy. That's right. I was just gonna go with Malfoy! He asked me...right now," Draco jerked his head at her confused but she just ignored him.
"Oh really?" Isaac seemed a bit confused. "I thought you guys hated each other- plus didn't you fight him- like fight, fight him?"
"Yeah haha... we uh sorted it out and stuff, don't worry about it, we are like BEST FRIENDS NOW!" She put her around him all friendly.
"Great! I'm glad! I'll see you later then, bye!" Isaac left with a satisfied smile. This went better than he expected- for him at least.
Elestra exhaled and suddenly let out, "Oh my god. Why did I say that?" She turned to Draco who was smirking. "Don't. Say. A word." She shot him a death glare, which made his cocky self want to burst out laughing even more. She didn't understand why she said that. She could've just told him she didn't have a date. And now what was she gonna tell Isaac when he sees she doesn't actually have a date. Of course Draco wouldn't actually go-
"So, when am I picking you up, Ms Ellington?" Draco grinned, smugly. Oh. Elestra was a bit surprised. She cocked her head side ways confused. It must be a joke right? He's probably kidding right-
"Come on, I've committed this far. How bad would it look on your part if you went alone?"
Oh. Guess he was serious. Elestra didn't say anything. She just stood there trying to comprehend it. Elestra was smart. She would usually get good grades and academically perform well. But when it came to social and emotional situations- her mind went blank. Maybe it was the lack of experience but she never knew what to say or do when she was trying to seem normal. She thought about how long she had been staring into space and then nodded at Draco.
"Great. I'll see you outside of the Gryffindor dorm at around 7:50?"
Draco noticed that she was a bit stunned and thought a little about what he said, "Listen, I'm only doing this because I'm nice. I don't like you or anything!" he huffed and hurried away.
What a weird do. Elestra thought about it...she was going to the ball... with the guy she punched...a couple of times. She was going to the ball with the guy she BULLIED???? Or was it that he bullied her...? Whatever, it was still not normal. He hated her right? She was caught up in her thoughts when she didn't notice a tall figure in front of her.
"Ah, Miss. Ellington...just the person I wanted to speak to..." Snape said in his monotone voice.
