"Malfoy?" she said upon reaching him who was standing out the front steps of the house., "What a coincidence! What are you doing here?"
"Oh hey Ellington- I didn't expect seeing you here..." Draco seemed surprised, "My father and I had to go to dinner around here...but he had some work to do at this place so he made me wait outside." Draco looked up at the house, hoping his father won't see him talking to Elestra.
"Woah, I didn't know wizards lived around here...my house is a few blocks away- I was just hanging out with my friends." she gestured towards the group of people behind her.
"EL!" Spencer called from behind, jogging up to her too, "Kelly brought cheese balls, aren't you hungry?"when he reached her he sized up Draco, suspiciously. "Who this?" He finally asked Elestra.
"Oh, he's... my friend...from that fancy boarding school I told you about," That's what Elestra had told them when they asked her what school she went to. She couldn't tell them about Hogwarts, so she just made up some name and told them she got accepted into a fancy private school...it wasn't all lies, right?
He gave Draco a nod and then examined his clothes, Draco did the same to Spencer. Wizards aren't used to seeing muggle clothes... especially not baggy denim jeans. Draco was a sheltered kid. His dad hated muggles so he never really went out into the muggle world that often.
Spencer leaned towards Elestra and whispered loud enough so he could hear, "Why the hell is this dude wearing a full black suit? Is he emo or something??"
Draco narrowed his eye brows and Elestra sensed the tension. "Oh, Draco, this is Spencer.. he lives pretty close to me, so we've been friends for a long time,"
"Nice to meet you." Draco bluntly spoke and put forward his hand. Spencer hesitantly took it. Who even shakes hands anymore?
"ARE YOU GUYS COMING? I'M GONNA EAT ALL THE CHEESE BALLS MYSELF!" Kelly called from behind.
"Hey, Draco, why don't you join us? How long will your father take?" Elestra asked cheerfully.
Spencer wasn't so keen on the idea, he was still very suspicious of Draco.
"I don't know," Malfoy glanced at his clock and then inside, "I think he'll take around an hour or so...I'm sure he won't mind.."
"Great! Come on," Elestra grabbed his arm and took him with her.
"Who is thattt??" Lexy asked, taking a cheese ball from Kelly's tub.
"He goes to my school," Elestra said quickly, leaning over the curb to get some cheese balls and offering some to Malfoy.
Spencer dribbled his ball as Draco looked at it confused. He had NO clue what basketball was and how you play it. He looked up at the hoop and thought how it looked like the quidditch hoop. Spencer noticed him observing the hoop, "Do you play?" He asked throwing the ball in the air.
"No..?" Malfoy mumbled. Spencer passed him the ball.
"Try. Throw the ball into the hoop," He pointed.
Draco glanced at Elestra nervously and she gave a nod of approval.
He tossed the ball. It went right through. Elestra gave him a small clap and Spencer was impressed. It was hard to get the ball in the first time. Especially for someone who had never heard or watched a game of basketball before.
"Good job!" Spencer patted him on the back. Draco felt content. It was like he had made his first muggle friend.
Elestra got up and put her arm around his shoulder friendlily. "Draco learns fast doesn't he?"
Malfoy nodded and smiled goofily. The group laughed at his inexperience. He liked the atmosphere. It was sort of warm and fuzzy. He hardly got to feel this way at home. The group reminded him of his own friends; the ones that aren't as close anymore. They didn't even write to him that summer. Maybe this had something to do with the meeting Draco had to be taken to that evening with the dark lord.
"DRACO!" Someone called from across the court.
They all turned to see a man with platinum blonde hair and cold eyes just like Draco's. The man was wearing such dark formal attire it seemed as if he was going to a funeral.
He strutted towards them. "What on earth are you doing mingling with these..." he looked at them disgusted. Everyone else was shocked. "these muggles!"
"Father, I'm sorry! I-" Draco stuttered clearly embarrassed.
"Not another word from you, boy." His father yelled grabbing his shoulder.
"Good evening Mr. Malfoy, lovely day today isn't it?" Elestra stepped in, with a calm and monotone voice. If looks could kill, his dad would be dead on the floor the moment he arrived.
Mr Malfoy nodded, studying her and recognising her from that day on the station. It seems as if he was good with faces.
"I don't believe it's appropriate for any parent to treat their child that way, sir." she looked towards Draco who was struggling under his dad's hands. Mr Malfoy let go. Draco massaged his shoulder and glared at his father. Mr Malfoy leaned over and scowled at Elestra, mumbling, "Don't you dare teach me how to take care of my son." He turned and stomped away somewhat gracefully. Draco followed behind. Looking back once to give Elestra a small smile.
"Woah." Kelly finally said after coast was clear. "What was that?"
"Strict parents." Elestra brushed it off. All though she was very worried about him, she didn't want to talk about someone else's personal issues to her friends.
"I liked him- he seemed cool." Lexy said, looking down at the ground disappointed.
"He is cool." Elestra smiled. She was glad they liked him.
Spencer noticed her smiling sort of stupidly and he woke her up. "Do you like-like him?"
She halted, "What? N-NO. I don't like him in THAT way...I just-"
"Sure, sure." Lexy chuckled. "Maybe that's why you blushing~~~"
Elestra instantly covered her cheeks embarrassed. "No. Come on Lexy! Don't be weird."
"You should ask him out, he cute." Lexy said playfully.
Elestra blushed even more. She had butterflies in her stomach just thinking about it. He was cute, but she couldn't risk asking him out and shattering her own heart. "Never. Remember what happened when I told James I liked him?"
Lexy laughed just thinking about it. "That was like third grade, Ellie!"
"Nope. Still not happening."
