"Finish the essays before next lesson, and that's all for today, class dismissed!" Professor Sinistra, the astronomy teacher told Elestra's class before they left. Umbridge was to inspect classes from now on and there was a sudden gloom in the air. It was the end of the day and there was going to be a Quidditch match between Slytherin and Ravenclaw at 4:25. Elestra and Nicole gathered their books and pens and dashed out the door. They'd promised Isaac they would be there for the match against Slytherin. Elestra Ellington and Nicole Winford both loved Quidditch-not as much as they loved supporting their friend- but, they found it so much more exciting than the muggle sports their parents usually watched.
Nicole and Elestra came across a partly crowded hallway. Elestra took a small step forward. she felt something slimy under her foot and lost control, flaring her arms in the air and barely catching herself from slipping. Nicole giggled at Elestra's clumsiness, as usual, Nicole was the clumsy one. Elestra noticed a 'wet floor' sign and a mop and bucket on the ground which most likely belonged to Mr Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts.
"Is it your first time walking? Aw, precious little duckling!" It was Malfoy again. He was snickering with his posse from a corner.
"Shut up you loathsome ferret!" Elestra shouted angrily, causing Draco to strut up to her. Consequently, he was so blinded by anger that he forgot about the wet floor sign and the bucket on the floor. His first foot missed the bucket, but his second wasn't so lucky- it kicked the bucket to the ground, resulting him to slip and fall forward, knocking the bucket and landing on top of the person he believed he hated the most. Elestra and Draco descended towards the ground in the blink of an eye. It took them a second to process what just occurred.
Elestra was on the floor, elbows up and her back touching the ground. Draco was on top of her, his arms on either side. Draco stared into Elestra's eyes which were wide open in shock. To Elestra, Draco's eyes seemed to also be as hers but for some reason, they seemed gentle. Not the cold, icey ones she had first seen- these ones seemed wonderfully captivating.
Elestra's mouth fell open and she let out a small yelp, "EW! you pervert!" she pushed him off her and backed away, pushing herself with her wrists. The few people in the hallway who had noticed- including Nicole and Draco's friends - howled in laughter. Draco sat up and looked away in embarrassment.
Professor Umbridge and Filch were just walking and probably talking about the best ways to punish children. When Filch noticed, he looked devastated, "I JUST CLEANED THAT!" he cried. Umbridge observed the scene and assumed what might've happened.
Filch stomped up to Draco and grabbed his collar, "I am going to tie you with chains 'til the blood rushes up to your head, stupid boy!"
Draco got up on his feet, "Professor! I assure you it was an accident!"
Umbridge let out a forced smile and chirped, "I am sure it was, accidents do happen!"
As much as she wanted to hurt Draco and Elestra for making a mess, she held herself back. Draco's father was a powerful man and could get people to hurt her or something. She first had to get in full power before beginning her tyrannical rule on Hogwarts.
"Mr. Malfoy and Miss. Ellington must mop up the mess they made as punishment...without magic." Umbridge then proceeded to whisper something to Filch.
"But- The Quidditch game-" Elestra tried to plead, but Umbridge cut her off, "No exceptions."
Filch had gone to the nearest broom cabinet and got the two of them the most worn out, dirty mops. It looked like the mops hadn't been used in decades-maybe even a century.
"Argh! Why does this happen?!?" Elestra kicked her mop to the ground in frustration.
Draco rolled his eyes. "Just shut up and clean, the quicker we get this done the better!"
"Don't YOU tell me what to do. It's all YOUR fault. I was dragged into to this because of YOU. YOU should be the one cleaning!"
"Fine. I admit it. It's my fault," Draco began mopping up something in a corner, Elestra smiled a satisfactory smile. "I apologise for making you blush, Ellington."
"What!?" Elestra was flabbergasted. How could a boy make her so mad and look that good at the same time, "Can't you take ANYTHING seriously?"
Draco chuckled and tossed her the mop. They continued to work until they were finished.
After a while, Elestra called, "What's the time? Do you think we could still make it?"
Draco glanced at his watch, "I suppose so, it's only five, the game must be still in play,"
"Let's go then, but first we have to put these away," Elestra gestured to the mops and bucket.
The closest broom cupboard was just past the hallway. When they reached it, they heard noises coming from inside. Instinctively, they reached for the door handle at the same time. Elestra's hands brushed against his and she quickly moved it back. Malfoy grasped the door trying not to think about the incident and burst it open.
Their eyes widened in shock.
It was Heather Lancaster and Aaron Wild from Hufflepuff, tangled around each other in the broom cupboard. It looked like they had just broken apart after a heated make out session. Elestra was left speechless. Draco narrowed his eyebrows and examined the scene. Heather opened her mouth to explain but before she could, Draco scuffled away in anger. Elestra noticed her jaw dropping as she looked at Heather and Aaron who were now hanging their heads in shame. Elestra felt as if it was not her place to be or say anything. She picked up the mop that Malfoy was carrying earlier and let it lean in the corner, pretending like nothing happened. She put the bucket in there too, and smiled awkwardly before hurrying out of their sight. She trusted it was best not to speak to anyone about it.
