Elestra glared out of the window of her mother's car, watching her neighbour's children go to school. Her eyes watched as trees and houses zoomed past on her way to Kings cross station. She glanced at her prefect badge and smirked a little. She was glad she was a prefect- she seemed to enjoy telling people what to. The other Gryffindor prefect would be Ron Weasley. Elestra was afraid Hermione would be the one who would beat her to it, however she was quite surprised when she found out the teachers thought she would be fit for this job.
"We're here!" Ms. Ellington, Elestra's mother called out to them, stopping the engine to the car.
Elestra quickly opened the door to the car and grabbed her trunk.
"What's the rush?" Thomas, Elestra's brother called out, reaching to help her with the trunk and getting his bags.
"Well...honestly, I don't know either. I just feel like something cool is going to happen this year!" Elestra replied hastily.
"Whatever, you say, El, just calm down, you're random bursts of energy can get you in trouble!" Elestra rolled her eyes at Thomas's remark and tried to get into the station but was pulled back by her mother.
"Where do you think you're going?" Ms. Ellington was smirking playfully.
"I'm going to be late! I am a prefect! I need to keep up my reputation!" Elestra protested.
Ms. Ellington wraped her arms around her and said, "You are not going without a hug, child,"
"Mum! You always do this!" Elestra looked around embarrassed, but then finally giving in.
"I'll miss you..." Elestra whispered, "I'll miss you too, Elestra," her mother called back.
After Thomas had also said his goodbyes, the two of them made their way through the wall guarding platform 9 3/4.
Elestra went to the front of the train where the prefects were supposed to be seated. She didn't seem to particularly know any of the other prefects. The first carriage she looked into was already occupied by four students. Since the prefects have two carts to themselves, she should probably go to the other one. Elestra awkwardly shrugged and slid the door close, moving on to the next and only option she had.
As she opened the door to the next compartment, she caught the cold grey eyes of Draco Malfoy. She gulped slowly and looked past him, it was Pansy Parkinson sitting opposite him, Ron Weasley was cramped in a corner adjacent to her. Ron gave her a sympathetic smile as she entered and sat next to Malfoy without saying a word.
'Just seven hours, Elestra, it's just seven hours, go to sleep and you'll be fine.' One of her inside voices told her.
Elestra rested her head against the door and watched out the window as scenery started to move. She could feel Draco's eyes frequently glancing at her as if she was some insect or pest. Ignoring this, she closed her eyes slowly, drifting to sleep.
Draco's elbow was resting on the table as he saw Ellington fall asleep so quickly. He ran a finger across the window in boredom. Pansy seemed asleep too. Weasley had snuck out to see his friends. Draco decided to take a nap too, it was going to be a long ride after all.
~~~~~~
Elestra shifted in her sleep, comforting her self and nuzzelung her head into a familiar scent. She felt an arm hanging over her shoulder. She felt so warm and safe. Elestra retracted back her legs and got closer to what she was pillowing her head against.
Draco's arms felt heavy as if someone had been leaning on them. He didn't mind- It felt comfortable, laying his head on another as his back lay against the window. Subconsciously, he noticed that someone was laying with him; yet he felt a warmth in his heart. He was too sleepy to move, so he went back to his nap.
Elestra awoke three hours later from a satisfied nap. Her eyes widened, she saw Pansy Parkinson smirking at her. Malfoy looked half asleep, as if he had just woken up as well, his hair messed up and his eyes squinting.
Elestra found her self tangled in Draco's arms and felt her face flush red. She leapt away from him and cowered in the corner. Draco felt his ears get red. His hand reached his face and he covered his cheeks with one hand.
"WHAT THE HELL? WHY WERE YOU CUDDLING ME?!" Elestra blurted out and felt her heart beats getting fast.
"I-NO! YOU WERE CUDDLING ME!" Draco flustered, "What is WRONG with YOU?"
"IT WASN'T MY FAULT I WAS ASLEEP!" Elestra felt her blood boiling.
Draco scoffed at Elestra's embarrassed face and seemed to find her anger amusing, "I have a girlfriend, you know!"
Elestra's brain stopped for a second. Her heart do a barrel roll as she suddenly paused.
"A...girlfriend?! Pfft, who would want to date you?" Elestra snapped, crossing her arms tightly.
"A lot of people, clearly. You seem are all over me," Draco joked.
"Your cockiness is exhausting!" Elestra shot up and stormed, out, her face still red.
The rest of the ride, Elestra stayed in the with Nicole and Isaac. She knew she was supposed to be in the prefects cart, but she was too humiliated to go back. She avoided telling her friends what actually happened, it was so discomforting. She didn't want to imagine herself with him- he was a terrible person. A good looking terrible person. No! Why? ARGH! her thoughts bickered with each other as she pretended to listen to what her friends were talking about.
When they finally arrived, she tried her best to stay away from Draco, however, it was impossible for them to stop making eye contact every time they passed each other.
