Amelia
The day was going quite slow in the bullpen since we didn't have much to work with. The man who did all those murders and rapes was surprisingly very careful, which worried us to the highest point. Both Sergeants walked out of Voight's office and stood in front of the white board, catching our attentions.
"A nurse informed us that a man approached her earlier this morning. He was wearing scrubs." Benson spoke, giving something more to work with.
"Anyone interview her yet?" Jay asked, looking at Voight.
"No, you and Davis." He pointed at us and I silently cheered, getting up and grabbing my stuff. We walked out of the bullpen together as the tech guy sent us the address.
"I'm driving." Jay spoke quickly, hurrying to his truck. I laughed, not really giving a damn about who drove. I got into the passenger seat and buckled up.
"How's the party coming up?" He joked, smirking at himself.
"Screw you." I replied, gently slapping his arm. "I'm only picking up the cake tomorrow."
"I'm sorry Voight's making you do that." He sincerely apologized and I smiled at him.
"It's okay, doesn't mean I actually have to be at her party." I responded, "Are you going?"
"Yeah probably. She's my partner." Jay said, bitting his lip as if he apprehended my answer. I scoffed lightly but didn't add anything else. Jay parked the car in the street in front of the apartment building. Neither of us said anything as we got out of the car and walked inside the building.
We knocked on the door and a woman opened it slightly, trying to take a look at who was behind it.
"Hi, Detective Halstead and Davis ma'am. We're coming over to talk to you about the man you saw earlier this morning." Jay introduced us as she let us in and sat down at the kitchen table. She invited us to sit down with her, which we did.
"What can you tell us about him?" I asked her, getting out my notepad to write down what she had to say.
"White male in his 40s. He was wearing scrubs and a plain black cap. He had the nicest smile, but I felt like something was off." She thought for a split second, "He was too, uh, chatty - I guess." I wrote down everything she said, figuring that every little detail could help by now. There were already too many victims. "He asked me if he could help me bring my things upstairs. I had many grocery shopping bags. I told him I was fine and left as fast as I could."
"What about a car? Did he have one?" Jay questioned.
"Yeah, actually. A green Toyota, but I don't remember the exact model." She pursed her lips and held her head down.
"Hey," I gently put my hand on hers, "It's fine. It's a lot more than what we had. This helps a lot." I reassured her as I offered her a small smile. She sent one back and nodded, showing me she understood me.
"Thank you a lot for you time. We will contact you again if we need more information and there are our cards if you need something." Jay handed her our cards and we shook her hand before heading back to the district. I sent all of the informations to Voight immediately.
"Another victim." I told Jay once Voight's response came in. "And the car was seen fleeing the scene. They got the guy in custody, Lindsay and Amaro are interrogating him."
"Do you think it's gonna be him?" He asked me, driving the car down the street.
"I hope. His thing has been going on for too long now." I responded nostalgically, thinking about all the woman who suffered because of him - whoever he is.
"Yeah, are you okay?" He asked gently, looking at me quickly before looking back at the road.
"Yeah, cases like this are always hard. Brings back the ghosts." I answered, glancing at him from the corner of my eye. He sighed and nodded, knowing very well that I was referring to what I had gone through undercover. Except I knew how lucky I was for not getting killed and it sometimes left me with survivors guilt.
"If you ever need to talk I'm here." He simply said ans we stayed silent up until we walked up to the bullpen. Voight directed us to the interview room and told us that the suspect, Gregory Yates, had been eyeing Lindsay like a dog would look at meat.
"Switch with her, Davis." Voight demanded, making Jay's eyes grow wide and making me frown at him.
"What? So you're just throwing her into the dog's cage?" Jay asked, obviously uncomfortable with what Hank had told me to do.
"I don't have to explain myself to you, Halstead. Davis, walk in there and tell Lindsay I want to see her. Follow Amaro's lead on this." He ordered and I nodded, shooting a quick look at Jay before walking out of the observation room and into the interrogation room.
"Detective Lindsay, Voight wants to see you." I announced, taking her place as she left. I leaned against the wall and looked over at Yates. "Keep talking."
"Mhm, and what would your name be?" He licked his lips as he eyed me. I held back from rolling my eyes, observing that he did the same thing to Erin and me.
"Detective Davis, Mr Yates. Now, would you like to talk to us about the woman you met earlier this morning?"
"The nurse? She was very nice. Didn't want any help though." He answered, confirming that he was indeed the one we were looking for. But he knew all too well that we had nothing to prove it. "How are you, Detective Davis? It is very nice to meet you." He smirked as he looked at me.
"I'm good."
"This case must be hard for you, no?" He pushed and I took a step forward, leaning over the table as I rested my hands on the table in front of him. I knew he'd find the opportunity to look down my shirt, but I knew he couldn't see much because my shirt covered me well so I didn't bother moving.
"Yeah, and let me tell you that when we find the son of a bitch who did this, he'll pay for it all." I spoke in a falsely sweet voice, even shooting him a fake smile by the end.
He chuckled, "Yeah, uh, I'm sorry but am I under arrest, officers? Because I have things to do."
"You're fee to go." I dismissed him, opening the door for him. I stepped outside first and let him follow me. I could feel his stare on me as I walked but tried my best not to act bothered by him. On the inside, I trembled in anger and fear.
He walked downstairs and everyone turned to me and Lindsay. I was speechless.
"I'm not the only one who saw all that, am I?" Ruzek spoke up, causing me to sigh heavily and sit down in my chair.
"Saw what?" Benson asked, walking out of the office.
"Yates staring at Erin like she's some type of candy as well as staring down at Amelia's ass." Ruzek replied, completely taken by surprise at the situation. Jay slapped his arm and sighed, taking a seat as well.
