(Okay but the way he lifts up his shirt)
Jay
I got into my car and started driving in direction of the building. Hailey looked at me with a huge smile on her face.
"What?" I chuckled, quickly glancing at her before I turned back to the road.
"You look unusually happy." She remarked, taking a sip of her coffee she had brought along with her.
"I'm always happy." I spoke back, scrunching my nose up and shrugging.
"Yes you are. But there is something more today." She drew her brows together, thinking deeply. She gasped, looking at me, "What happened at the sex club?"
I rolled my eyes, chuckling once more, "Nothing happened." I cleared my throat, scratching my beard. "At least not there." I murmured a smirk on my face.
"Oh, my god you pig!" She slapped my arm and she gasped before laughing along with me.
"Don't ask if you don't want to know." I warned her, parking close to the building. "I'm a bit worried about her though."
"Why?" She frowned and looked at me, probably thinking that I did something.
"I didn't do anything." I rolled my eyes at her, "It's just, this morning she threw up for absolutely no reason and she's been feeling bloated like her stomach's swollen or something." I explained to her.
"Have you spoken to her about it?"
"No, haven't had the time yet." I responded, running my fingers through my hair as we got out of the car.
"Maybe she just ate something that was bad." She shrugged, concentrating on the task at hand.
"Probably. She said it was the chicken that made her feel sick."
"It'll pass, don't worry Jay." She reassured me and I nodded as we stood by the back door, ready to bust in. We heard through our earpiece everything Amelia and Kim said, as well as Voight's orders.
"What is she doing?" I whispered to Hailey as we heard Amelia send Kim back to their car. Once Voight gave the signal, we all got inside and our earpieces got cut out for some reason. I shook it off, knowing Amelia was able to defend herself. I was still worried, but I knew that worrying too much would only get me hurt.
We made the arrests after they put up a bit of a fight. We all made it out fine though. I looked around me, noticing Amelia still hadn't come around yet.
"Burgess, can you hear me?" I called in my radio on our private sequence.
"Yes," She answered, "Is everything alright in there? I lost sight of Amelia."
"We made the arrests, no sign of Amelia." I informed Kim and watched as everyone looked at me. All the officers who came with us left with the guys we arrested. "Where the hell is she?" I angrily mumbled to myself, fear crossing my face as I put my hand over my mouth. I looked around me frantically, searching for hidden rooms or anything else. There wasn't much in this exact room, which made me think that maybe there might be another door that lead to another room.
"Burgess, was there another room on your side of the building?" I wondered, getting out of the building with Hailey following closely.
"Not that I saw, let me check." I heard her car door open and I headed her way. I walked behind her to the other side of the building, my gun raised in front of me. We got to the end of the hall and surely, there was a secret door.
"Sarge, we got a secret door on the east side of the building. Going in right now." I spoke in my radio, not waiting for an answer before I kicked the door open. First thing I saw was my fiancé laying on the ground, passed out. Next, a strong smell filled my nostrils. "Nitrous Oxide." I called to both women behind me as well as on my radio. "Dammit. Call an ambulance." I asked Hailey, handing her my gun before I held my breath. I ran inside the room and hurried up to untie her. I was slowly but surely getting breathless, but no way in hell I would leave her in here.
I had to breathe by the time I got her untied, but I grabbed her as quickly as I could and got her out of that room. Kim and Hailey took her from me and dragged her away from the strong smell, hoping it would at least help clear her airway a little. I was feeling a little faint and I was coughing a lot, trying to get rid of everything I had inhaled. Atwater arrived by my side, letting me lean on him and helping me get away from the door. Upton and Burgess had put Amelia down on the ground and worked on getting her airway cleared. Tears filled my eyes, scared of the effect this could have on her. The ambulance arrived quickly and they brought her to the hospital, letting me ride with them since I had also been exposed to the gas. Voight told us all he'd take care of the scene and let everyone follow us to the hospital.
Once we arrived, I was checked in and they gave me oxygen to help me breathe but then only recommended rest as they checked Amelia out. Hailey walked inside my room and sat on the end of my bed, sighing loudly.
"I hate you for always doing this." She simply said, not even looking at me.
"Doing what?" I asked, frowning in confusion at her.
"Always getting me worried about you, can't ever stay safe." She rolled her eyes playfully and I laughed at her.
"It's my specialty." I joked, "It's worth you worrying if it's to save Amelia." I added, running my fingers through my hair.
"It is, always has been worth it." Hailey answered, just as a doctor walked inside the room.
"Detective Halstead, may I speak with you about your fiancé ?" He asked, clearly wanting Hailey to go.
"Yes, is she okay?" I blurted out.
"Maybe it would be better if we spoke alone, sir." He subtly suggested, glancing at Hailey quickly.
"It's fine, she can stay - she's our bestfriend." I assured her and he nodded.
"Detective Davis is currently in surgery," He started, making me panic before he could even think about saying something else.
"Wh- what? Why?" I stuttered nervously.
"She was a month pregnant, Detective. Your fiancé inhaled too much nitrous oxide in a short amount of time and it caused the foetus to suffer from intracranial hemorrhage. It was very hard to see on the echo since the foetus was clearly underdeveloped, but our best OBGYN checked her out and diagnosed it." He explained, "I'm sorry, Detective."
"I-I," I stuttered again, trying to regain composure, "She was pregnant? We thought- we thought she'd never be able to." Hailey shifted to sit besides me and wrapped her arm around my shoulders so she could support me physically as well as psychologically.
"The OBGYN was surprised as well after she read your fiancé's file. Her uterus is unlikely to welcome a foetus, let alone be able to support it fully. The pregnancy would most probably have been dangerous for her, but yes, Detective Halstead, she was pregnant and it was seemingly going well. But everything could have turned around in a blink of an eye." He informed me, his voice low and full of empathy.
She was pregnant. We were going to have a baby. Sure, we didn't know how it would've turned out. I wasn't quite ready to hear what could've gone wrong, all I heard was that my soon-to-be wife was pregnant with my baby. We weren't being safe because we thought she'd never get pregnant, we were being stupid.
"We need your approval to remove the foetus, Detective Halstead." I froze at his words, unable to think or even speak.
______________________ Don't hate me pls I'll fix it
Obviously pregnancy is NOT going to be easy for Amelia and Jay. Amelia (and her uterus) has gone through A LOT of trauma in the past and it's not going to work out that well on the first try. Plus, I am not ready to finish this story just yet and I feel like it'll be over just a few chapters after they get a baby.
Question is: do YOU want me to finish up this story soon or should I keep going?
