Amelia
We all decided to head back to Chicago tomorrow instead. It was getting quite late and we all needed some sleep. We booked multiple rooms at an hotel close to the airport and Sergeant Benson drove us there. We all went our separate ways and went in our own rooms. Upton followed me to mine so she could give me some clothes and talk with me for a little while. Someone's gentle hand stopped me from getting inside my room.
"If you need something, I'm right next door." Jay told me and I nodded, smiling up at him and nodding. He let me go and walked to his door.
I joined Hailey on the couch and we both sighed simultaneously, glad this day was finally over.
"How are you feeling?" She asked me softly. I looked up at the ceiling, thinking about my answer for a second.
"I'm alright, I think. A bit confused about why you thought that woman was me." I chuckled lightly, "May she rest in peace."
"She looked just like you, Amelia. It was crazy. He obviously did it on purpose because he taunted Jay about it. Oh! By the way, Jay got all up in Voight's face about making you go meet him and all that. He looked so destroyed when we found the body, Amelia. It was a horrible sight. I mean we all were extremely sad and mad about it but I think Jay was the worst." She admitted, the corner of her lips curved into a small smile.
"I hate Yates." I said, shaking my head. "Thank you for being there for Jay."
"Meh, it's nothing. I'll always be there for you both." I nodded at her, showing her my appreciation.
"That means a lot." I smiled before speaking again, "You know, Jay talked to me about having children when he found Kim's pregnancy test in my purse." When she had found out about me and Jay, I had vaguely explained that he had found it.
"What'd he say?" She asked, handing me the clothes after she fished them out of her bag.
"Well, like I told you he thought it was mine so he said he'd be there for me and all that cute stuff about supporting me through it all." I told her, grabbing the clothes as I headed to the bathroom to change.
"Woah, didn't he say that he'd never have children?" She asked, surprised.
"Yeah that's why I was so surprised." I admitted, getting out of the bathroom after I finished changing.
"Would you have his children?" She wiggled her eyebrows at me, chuckling.
"Well considering I can't get pregnant, no." I joked back not lingering on my condition any longer because I didn't want to think about it, "But if I could and if we didn't have such dangerous jobs, I would."
"Then why aren't you two together?" She wondered, making me stop in my tracks and wonder. Why weren't we together?
I mean, I know why I broke up with him and I know why I stayed single until he figured his shit out. But I was pretty sure he did by now. I know I wasn't ready to trust him just yet. But after weeks of seeing him from time to time, talking to him about other things than our relationship, working with him, I had built up my trust in him again. We had spent the last few weeks picking up our broken pieces without even realizing it.
"I don't know, actually." I told her and she threw her head back before throwing her hands up in the air.
"Well go see him! What are you waiting for?" She called, laughing at me as she pushed me out of the room and handed me my key. "I'll be in here if you need me."
I hesitated, unsure of everything all of a sudden. Was I ready? Hailey stopped my thoughts from getting stronger by knocking on Jay's door and leaving quickly. I groaned at her but still stood at his door, waiting for him to open it up.
Except he didn't. Erin did. Not only did she open the door to Jay's room, but she opened it half naked. She was wearing a shirt, sure. But it wasn't just a shirt. It was his shirt. It fell down to her mid thigh and she was holding her joggings in her hand. My eyes widened as I raised a brow at her, confused at the sight in front of me. She glanced up at the ceiling, shaking her head quickly as she hurriedly put on her joggers.
I scoffed, "I'll just go. Don't bother." I waved her off, stepping away from the door. I heard the shower being shut off. Footsteps were heard as Erin gripped the door handle.
"Erin? Everything good?" Jay asked, appearing in the background. Only a towel around his waist, his whole body and hair still wet from the shower. He looked amazing but I couldn't help but remind myself that this sight wasn't meant for me at the moment.
The second his eyes caught mine panic flooded through his whole body and facial expression. "Amelia, it's- it's not what you think."
"Save it, Jay." I held my hand up to show him I wasn't interested in hearing what he had to say before I walked away and back to my room. Before I closed my door, I heard shuffling in his room and the door closing twice.
I stayed against the door for a few seconds, breathing in and out slowly. I tried not to let the emotions get the best of me. He didn't deserve it. I knew I had made him wait, but he said he didn't mind and that he would wait until I was ready. It's not like I made him wait for months, right?
A knock on the door brought me back to reality and I opened the door abruptly, not even thinking about looking through the peephole to see who it was.
"Let me explain, please." Jay begged, his eyes all watery and pained. When I didn't answer, he added, "Can I come in?"
I licked my lips and screwed my eyes shut for a split second before I nodded and left him enough space to come in. I stood up against the wall as he took a seat on the bed. I could barely look at him, because it hurt too much. Truth is that I was insanely scared to hear what he had to say. What if he had been sleeping with her this whole time? I waited until he started talking, which took only a few seconds. Which was how I knew he really wanted to explain himself.
"Erin had a problem with her room, something about it not being cleaned yet or something. So I let her stay in mine since I have a couch. She borrowed my shirt for a reason I didn't even understand. I swear to you, Amelia, I didn't see her half naked up until she opened up the door." Jay explained, looking at me. I finally looked at him, my arms still crossed against my chest.
"You didn't do anything with her? At all?" I looked down at the ground shortly before looking back up at a guilty looking Jay. "Jay." I trailed off, not sure I wanted to hear the truth now.
