"I can't believe he's already two." I gushed to Will as I held baby Ruzek in my arms. He chuckled at me and nodded, watching his brother messing around with his birthday boy.
"Yeah, he grew up too fast." Will answered, looking proudly at his son. "I wish he'd stay this young forever."
"Mh, I think you'd grow tired of it eventually. Playing and learning is all fun and games but when there's no evolution it's not all that fun." I told him as he jokingly glared at me.
"Way to ruin my fun." He rolled his eyes and I shrugged, laughing with him. "How's the wedding planning going?"
"Well it's finally done after half a year." I chuckled, "Haven't set a date yet, though. So technically not done." I clarified, watching him frown at me.
"What are you waiting for? Having seconds doubts?" He nudged me, knowing very well that wasn't the case. I shook my head and shrugged.
"Yeah, you know you're brother is a lot to handle." I teased, nudging him back as he laughed. "Truthfully, I don't know what we're waiting for. It's been a crazy couple of months, big cases at work, baby Ruzek arriving, we just had a lot on our minds." I told him honestly, finding myself wondering why we hadn't set a date yet.
"Sounds like other people's problem, not yours." He replied, still frowning. "You two have the same damn problem. Always putting everyone else first." He chuckled, looking far away like he was reminiscing something. "Just do something for yourselves for once and please, set a date so that I can find a good suit for the ceremony." He pleaded and I nodded, laughing as we watched Jay make his way over to us.
A few people from med, the fire house as well as the 21st district had come to Nat and Will's house to celebrate Noah's second birthday. Finding ourselves together somewhere else than Molly's was weird, but a good time anyway. There weren't many kids mostly adults but Will and Nat figured it wouldn't matter that much because who even remembers their second birthday after all.
"Stop bothering my fiancée, brother." Jay joked, playfully punching his brother's arm as I rocked baby Ruzek in my arm - watching them.
"I'll get my revenge." Will joked, looking at me before leaving us on our own. Jay turned to me and wrapped his arm gently around my waist so he could pull me closer to his chest. He was careful of the baby in my arms, of course.
"You know you can give the baby back whenever, right?" Jay chuckled, giving his finger to the baby. The baby played with it as I stared adoringly at them.
"I know, it's just so tiny and cute." I chirped, "Maybe I could keep it for a few years and just give it back when it starts talking and asking questions." I suggested, smiling at the baby in my arms. Jay playfully rolled his eyes, laughing at me. We stood there, talking and playing with the tiny little baby for a while - up until Kevin walked up to us and showed us his phone.
"Got a case." He warned us and we nodded, going over to Adam and Kim. I handed Kim back her baby reluctantly as she waved us goodbye. The whole team, except Kim, went back to the bullpen. We were greeted by Voight and the white board. He was writing something down on the board and once he heard us coming in, he turned around to face us.
"Antonio gave us a tip about two of the biggest heroine dealers of Chicago. The wife was about to jump off a bridge because Benji, the mastermind behind all this, was cheating on her. He's accompanied by his brother in this drug dealing thing, so we're catching them both. I'm sending you all on a blackout later tonight, we're catching Benji and he'll lead us to the others." Voight vaguely explained, but we didn't ask questions - understanding everything anyway. It was the end of the afternoon and for the rest of the night, we discussed the case and tried to figure out everything about this crew.
As the night came, we got ready for the blackout. We geared up and separated in teams of two. We went up to Benji's house and sneaked inside the house, only to find Benji in bed with another man.
"Woah, alright Benji." Jay blurted out in a mocking tone, "Chicago P.D, you're coming with us."
"Well, after you've finished getting dressed." I clarified, looking at him up and down. He was only wearing boxers and the other guy wasn't even wearing anything - only hidden by the blankets from the bed. The guys snickered behind me and I shushed them, hurrying Benji to get dressed. We brought him to the precinct with us, telling his boyfriend to shut his mouth if he didn't want to get into trouble.
We made Benji talk - which wasn't all that hard after what we had just witnessed, he was practically willing to admit to anything just so we wouldn't tell his wife why and who he was leaving her for. We asked him to set up a meeting with his brother the next day to introduce a rich new investor - aka Jay. We let him go on with his night with the promise of not breaking our deal as we all did the same as him and went back home to our own lovers - or lone selves for half of the team.
-
The next morning we all met at the district to get ready, our tech guy setting Jay up for the meet with wires and hidden cameras. Jay didn't look nervous at all, but I felt a little uneasy with this undercover mission. I kept quiet about it and just followed everyone's lead. Voight told us over and over again where we had to go and what to do if it went wrong. Everything was set perfectly, from the start to the end. Not much could go wrong no matter what my gut told me.
Jay drove separately from all of us so he could get there first and meet with Benji before the latter took him to his brother. We had eyes on Jay and Benji up until they walked past the gates - which they weren't really supposed to do. Voight asked us to keep quiet and let Jay go, saying he knew what he was doing and that we should trust him. We stood by, listening and trying to see what happened around him. It didn't take long before Derek called out his brother about disappearing the night before. Jay didn't say anything as Benji tried to save himself, spitting out words and sentences that didn't make any sense. Derek didn't have any pity for him and didn't even hesitate before he shot his own brother in cold blood. We all watched through Jay's camera, the blood spluttering everywhere as Benji's body dropped on the ground. The men around them gasped but Jay didn't even flinch - not even when Derek turned to him.
"Search him." Derek spoke, pointing to Jay as my heart beat picked up. I knew exactly what they would fine then.
"Everyone inside now!" Voight's voice yelled through our radios, making all of us jump out of our cars and into the airport. We all ran like no tomorrow, pushing past the guards as we shouted who we were. We hurried past the gates and into the private room Jay was supposed to be in.
Except all we found was an empty room. No Derek. No Jay. Only a dead Benji on the ground, surrounded by his own blood. My heart dropped at the sight and my breathing picked up as I panicked. I dropped down on my knees in front of the whole team as we all stood around feeling completely defeated.
