Amelia

"This is leading to absolutely nothing." I huffed, slamming my hands down on my desk - not in a way that would startle my coworkers though. Hailey looked at me, her lips pressed in a thin line as she looked at me rubbing my temples.

"We'll get him back, Amelia." She tried to reassure me and I only nodded, without giving back a response. It had been too long, the list of things they could have done to Jay by now was getting longer and longer. I was getting desperate and useless. My head was all over the place, making it was impossible for me to concentrate on a task.

"I got something." Atwater exclaimed as he ran up the stairs with a DVD and a paper in the other hand. "They hired a random kid off the streets to bring us this." He informed us, putting the DVD into my computer as everyone gathered around us. Voight walked out of his office and rushed over to us. Ruzek put his hands on my shoulders in a way to show me his support.

I held my breath in as the video started, my stomach dropping at the sight of my fiancée getting beaten up almost to death from what we could see. My pulse quickened and my hands became clammy as I started having trouble controlling my breathing. They tasered, hit, cut my fiancée like there was no consequences - like he was some kind of toy they could do whatever they wanted to. I tore my eyes away for a few seconds, needing a little break from the torture. When I looked back, I saw Derek's face on the screen as Jay's lifeless body hung in the background. He looked like he had trouble even holding his head up. I felt sick just thinking about how much he must be in pain right now. And his screams haunted me.

"I wanna make a straight trade. I give you back your man in exchange for all your CI files. I want a lone female officer to make the trade. I'll be waiting." Derek's voice spoke on the video and we all stood back in disbelief. We couldn't do that. We couldn't just give out our CI files, but at the same time, we couldn't just give up on Jay. He gave all the details we needed before the video finished, leaving us on edge.

"Okay, so we hand them out, right?" Ruzek was the first to speak up, startling me. He squeezed my shoulders when he felt me jump up.

"No." Voight simply answered and I jerked my head in his direction, hoping his sentence wasn't over and he would suggest a better plan. Unfortunately, he didn't say anything else.

"What? No? So we're just letting Jay out there to die?" Adam fought back, letting go of my shoulders as he stepped closer to Voight.

"We are not giving out our CI files. We can't just put all of our CIs in danger to save one life." Voight added, his words broke my heart. I knew he didn't mean in a bad way - but it just felt to me like he wasn't fighting hard enough to get Jay back.

"One life? This is Jay's life we're talking about here. One of our own." Adam got worked up and Voight instantly made him tone it down. Before they got into a heated argument, I got an idea.
