Amelia
Atwater drove us to the location as fast as he could - maybe even a bit faster than he should've been driving. I was extremely nervous, having no idea of Jay's state since no one had talked into our radios since then. He parked a few houses away and I jumped out of the car and ran to the first ambulance I saw.
Jay was sitting in the back, shirtless as Sylvie patched his shoulder up. I threw my hands up in the air, confused.
"You're fine?" I asked, my tone low as my throat felt scratchy and my eyes filled with tears - now the adrenaline was totally gone. Atwater had gone over to Voight once he saw Jay so he could help.
"You don't sound happy about that." He joked, smiling softly at me. A few tears rolled down my cheeks and he waved me over, "Come here baby." I went over to him and held him tightly, careful not to touch his shoulder. "The bullet just grazed me, Hailey thought it was worse because I bled a lot and it's dark."
Sylvie left us alone as she finished patching up Jay's shoulder. I looked up at him, not pulling away. "You dick. You scared me." I whispered, wiping my tears as the corner of my lips pulled up into a small smile.
"I'm sorry baby, I'm okay though. You should go help them out, I think the offenders didn't get very far." I nodded and pulled away from him. He was smirking at me and I groaned in response.
"What?" I mumbled.
"I think you just outed us." He looked behind us where Hailey was standing, waiting for me - probably.
"Meh, pretty sure she already knew." I shrugged it off and Jay offered me a smile, taking my response as a sign that I was okay with everyone knowing about us - which I was. It was time. I walked away, joining Hailey who just cheered and giggled saying she knew and all that stuff.
Voight assigned us to a certain building, knowing no one could have gotten further away because the entire block was on lockdown. As we made our way to the building, I told Hailey how we had gotten back together. Before I could tell her about Jay and I getting engaged, we saw movement inside the building. It was supposed to be an abandoned one.
"That's definitely our men." Hailey informed me.
"50-21 Charlie, we got eyes on the offenders." I called into my radio, knowing Voight knew exactly where we was so I didn't say the address.
Hailey and I raised our guns, slowly making our way to the entrance of the building. We carefully walked in and cleared the first floor before moving on to the second.
"50-21 Charlie, we just cleared the first floor. Offenders were last seen on the fourth - West side." I called in my radio as we walked up the stairs and repeated everything we did on that floor.
"Alright, keep going. We've got snippers following you on both sides of the building. Consider the offenders dangerous." Voight spoke back, as we got to the fourth floor we cleared everything- covering each other's back.
"Fourth floor is clear." Hailey called into Voight's sequence so not everyone would hear us.
"Be careful. They're here somewhere." Voight spoke as we walked up the last flight of stairs slowly. We watched over our heads, looking over the railing to see if we could see anything. Once we cleared half our paths, we walked up completely and announced ourselves. They were considered armed and dangerous, but we weren't exactly sure which one of them had actually shot Jay and fired at the police. We found them both pointing their guns at us and I sighed heavily, already fed up by them.
"Drop the guns." The taller one ordered, moving his gun around like it was a simple toy.
"Alright, alright." Hailey said and I looked at her wide eyed.
"Are you crazy?" I whispered, hoping they didn't hear me. She glared at me as she slowly bent down to put her gun on the floor. I did the same, shaking my head in disagreement. I was only hoping the snipers could see them.
"Drop to your knees, both of you." The smaller one barked, his harsh voice startling me. For a small guy he sure had a strong voice. We did as we were told and they both walked closer to us and put their guns on their waistband so they could grab our wrists. First mistake.
"Mhm, beginners, uh?" I chuckled as the man who was holding me tightened his grip and pulled me closer to him.
"What'd you say?" He growled at me, squeezing my wrists.
"I said," I trailed off, "beginners." I turned around quickly and harshly so he'd let go of my wrists, which he did. Then I kicked him in the knee and grabbed his gun, pointing it directly at his head once he got down on his knees. The other man had grabbed his gun, letting go of Hailey and had it pointed right at my face.
"Drop it." I demanded, only getting a head shake in response. "Drop it or I drop him."
"Do it. I'll get your badge." He threatened weakly.
"You rape and beat up kids for a living, if you think I care about my badge when I could stop you from doing all those things - then you're wrong." I responded, undoing the safety on the gun. Hailey's eyes widened and I only hoped she'd end up taking the risk of knocking the gun out of his hands. I tried to clue her inside of my plan, looking at his gun quickly before looking back at her.
"You have no proof." He stated, his voice starting to shake a little - showing me he was actually scared.
"But I do. And not only will we take you down for your little business, but we'll get your ass for opening fire on our detectives and hurting one of them." I replied and before he could say anything, Hailey knocked his gun out of his hand and pointed it directly at him. I sighed in relief. "You're under arrest. Everything you'll say can and will be used against you." I smirked at them as we put handcuffs on them. We got our guns back as well as theirs and started making our way downstairs.
"This is 50-21 Charlie, two offenders in custody. We're on our way downstairs." I called in my radio just as we got to the first floor. Once we got out, another unit took care of bringing them back to the district as we disposed of their guns for proof and joined our team.
"Well done everyone. Let's go back to the district to write down the paperwork and call it a night." Voight ordered and we all went back to our cars. As I was opening my door, Voight stopped me halfway.
"Jay's at Chicago Med getting checked up. Just write down the important details and then go pick him up." He suggested, showing no signs of disapproval or whatsoever.
"I - uh," I hesitated, not knowing if I even had to come clean at this point.
"It was time you two got back together." He added, showing me a small and short smile - resting his hand on my shoulder. Voight squeezed it and then let go so he could walk back to his own car. I smiled to myself, happy that everything was finally going well again.
________________ THAT is a real good ending lmao If you read my dumb comments from the last chapter, I want to let you know that in my defence I was extremely tired and it was early. I am NOT that dumb usually :')
Tell me what you want to happen next!!!! (Except babies bc I already know that)
