•Tuesday, November 5th•

Today is the send-off day for our State Dance Competition and I have to admit I'm a little nervous. I am stretching with the rest of my team, Taylor mostly, watching as the whole student body file into the auditorium to watch our performance.

"I'll be right back" Taylor called to me already jogging away to do, whatever she wanted

Today is my seventeenth birthday so I guess the fact that I'm going to be performing in a state dance competition and doing a solo is a pretty great gift, even if it wasn't intentional.

"Ok ok I'm back your lives have been blessed don't worry," Taylor says sarcastically as she curtseyed to us, the team.

"Yay," we all cheer unamused as we go back to stretching

"So what did you have to do that was so important?" I ask curiously

"You'll see" Taylor replied and before I could question any further our president started the assembly

"Students of Gotham Academy put your hands together for our very own four state champion dance team!" Mr. Carter, our principal, announced and we entered the auditorium as the student body cheered for us

"These talents ladies and gentlemen have been chosen to perform in the state dance competition!" Mr. Carter announced and everyone in the crowd applauded us

"Now by my understanding, you guys will be performing a group routine than a few solos, right?" Mr. Carter questioned then tilted the microphone to Taylor who was happy to be the center of attention

"You are correct, we have three soloists, all of which are seniors this year: Jackson Perry, Hayden Chesney, and yours truly me, Taylor Mason," Taylor said smiling giving a diva pose to the crowd

"Are you excited for your solo, Jackson?" Mr. Carter tilting the mic to Jackson now who smiles widely

"I am we got this year's trophy in the bag," Jackson says confidently causing the crowd to go wild

"Hayden someone told me it was your birthday, Happy Birthday!" Mr. Carter said looking down at me with a smile

"Thank you," I say awkwardly with a shy smile

"How old are you now?" Mr. Carter asked

"Seventeen" I reply with a smile

"Wow, seventeen: a senior a soloist at a state dance competition, impressive." Mr. Carter complimented

"Thank you" I whisper a soft thank you to him

"So are you excited to perform for both the competition and us today?" Mr. Carter asked with a smile

"I am, I am very excited to show you guys the routines we have practiced for the competition," I answer honestly with a smile

"Alright thank you and we can't wait to see you guys dance, right?" Mr. Carter said more towards the crowd to get them to cheer for us

I go to my position in the second row on the left side behind Taylor and try to muster up the best sassy look I can.

~ Tim's pov ~

There's an assembly today for the dance team send-off. I wasn't too interested in it though, it would only be the same as last year and the year before that: the snobby team captain would say something, the soloists would explain some things, and then they would dance.
