"THAT ISN'T FAIR FOR AVALON, SIR." I woke up to the sound of screaming outside the office. I got up and opened the door.

"I'M SORRY NICOLE, BUT NO ORPHANAGES IN NEW YORK ARE WILLING TO TAKE IN AN EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD." An officer yelled at Officer Smith.

"I'LL TAKE HER IN IF I HAVE TO." She yelled back. "You simply can't, I checked with the office this morning, you are connected to this case. Trust me, I tried." He tried saying in a calmer tone.

His eyes then directed towards me. Officer Smith then turned around and looked at me. "Come on, Avalon, let's get you dressed for the mall." She said pulling me to the bathroom.

"Take a shower and then let's head over, to my office, get you changed and then let's go." She said.

I took a shower and then went to my left over clothes, I put on a sweatshirt and some shorts and my converse, and then walked outside.

"Ready, Avalon?" She asked me. She wasn't wearing her regular uniform. "Yeah." I said under my breath. "Let's go then." We walked outside and I sat in her car. She started to play music.

"So where do you want to go first? The station gave us around $800 dollars to spend... And that's a lot." She asked me. "Well I need a new phone charger and laptop charger." She added.

"Alright then let's head to the Apple store." She said parking the car. We got out and we went to Apple, we were in and out in a finger snap it was really quick. "How about now? Where to?" She asked me.

I shrugged. "How about we go to target. If we see something you need or want, then we'll get it." She said. "Yeah sure." I said. We walked to target and we just walked around. "Oh I need mascara, a toothbrush, tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner, and the book One Page at a Time by Adam J. Kurtz." I said.

"Alright." She said. We walked and grabbed what we needed, somethings extra too that we thought could come in handy.

We were just walking around and we came to the art supplies area. I stopped and looked. "Let me guess, you're an artist?" She asked looking at a sketch book that I was holding. "Yeah, Officer." I said.

"Oh no, call me Nicole, and how about we grab that sketch book, and some pencils and some other art supplies and let's go pay." She said to me. I nodded and smiled at her.

We went to the cashier and paid for our stuff. "So Avalon, why don't you take $200 and go around and find some clothes at Forever 21 and I'll meet you there in 30 minutes." Nicole said to me. "Alright." She handed me the money and I walked to Forever 21.

I bought a decent amount of stuff considering most of it was from the sale section. I looked around different areas of the store and I saw a red dress that sort of looked like the dress I was going to wear today. I felt tears building up again, but I held them in.

"Hey Avalon!" I turned around to see someone from my school. "Hey Kody!" I yelled to her.

"Hey, I'm sorry. I heard what happened to your house and stuff, and I wanted to know if you wanted somewhere to bunk for a little." She said to me. "No, I'm fine. I'm staying at the station for a while. But thanks so much for offering me a place to stay." I said pulling Kody into a hug. "Well you have my number, just text me if you need anything, okay?" She said. "Okay." I said. "Well, I hope everything gets better, hope to see you soon." Kody said walking away. "Thanks Kody." I said waving to her.

Nicole then came up to me. "A friend from school?" She asked me. "Yeah." I nodded. Wow I'm surprised there weren't a lot of people here at the mall. It's a Saturday.

"Well I got something for you." She handed me a tie-dye suitcase and a black backpack. "I thought you would've needed something to carry everything in." She said to me. "Thanks so much!" I hugged her.

"So we have about $350 left, what do you want to do with it?" She asked me. "Clothes, clothes, and more clothes." I said and smiled. "How about shoes? Or are you fine with just those pairs?" She asked me. "That would be a good idea..." I said and laughed.

We went and bought Black converse because I needed a new pair anyways, I bought white flip flops and I also got black booties, because I needed a fancy type pair of shoes.

We had $250 left, with that, I bought a lot of clothes, more than I probably had before everything happened. I was a very simple girl and didn't wear different clothing all the time. Nicole and I had such a fun time. It was like a mini fashion show. Any girl would die for a shopping spree like I had today.

We put all the bags in the suitcase to make everything easier to carry around.

"Are you hungry?" She asked me. "I could go for something right now." I said. We walked to Red Robbins, I ordered a chicken cesar salad, and iced tea.

"Nicole can I ask you something?" I asked while we were waiting for food. "Yeah, what do you want to ask?" She said. "What were you and that other officer talking about this morning? Were you guys were yelling about me?" I asked her. Our waiter came out with our drinks.

"Avalon, we were talking about you." She said taking a sip of her water. "What about me?" I asked.

"No, orphanage in New York or New Jersey are willing to take in an 18 year old. They say it's going to be hard to find you parents, and they don't want to risk you being there. There was only one orphanage willing to take an 18 year old in." She said.

The food then came. "Well, where was the orphanage that was willing to take me in?" I asked eating some of my salad.

"California."

I almost choked on my salad. "That's across the country." I said wiping my face with a napkin. "Yeah I know, I was willing to take you in, but they said I couldn't because I wasn't a registered as an officer for adoption." Nicole said to me.

For the rest of the meal I just sat and thought about what that would do to me. But since I pretty much already lost everything. I think it would be better for me to start a new life in an entirely new area.
