11. The Hospital

We got to the hospital and they rushed Lily into a room. They made me sit out in the waiting area, but I couldn't sit still.

I kept pacing back and fourth. Zack and all the other kids came in and they sat down. Morgan hugged me and I didn't want Lily to die. Lily couldn't breath. You should've heard her, she was panting like a dog.

"Avalon, calm down." Jack said. "NO, I can't calm down! Lily's in there, probably not being able to breath!" I yelled.

Derek and Cat then came in. I rushed over to him. "What happened Zack told me to c-" I cut him off.

"YOU TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ALL OKAY AND NOW WE ARE SITTING IN THE HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM FOR A SIX YEAR OLD WHO COULD BARELY BREATH!" I yelled at Derek.

I stormed out of the hospital and laid down in the back of Derek's pickup truck, looking up at the stars in the sky.

Zack came out and hopped up into the truck and laid down next to me. He put his arm under my head and I laid my head on him. "Do you think Lily's going to be alright?"

"Yeah I do, tomorrow she's probably just going to be here to see if she's okay and a few hours later she's going to be up and running like she always is."

"I can't believe Derek left them home. Without leaving proper instructions either, like maybe if Derek ordered pizza for them or something, or told Jack to order something, then it all would have been okay, but no, Derek decides to leave the kids to just do anything. At least Derek told Jack to feed the children."

Zack pulled me into a hug. "Hey, hey, you need to calm down, it's all going to be okay, Lily is going to be okay. Okay?"

We just sat looking at the sky, when we walked into the waiting room, all the kids were asleep except for Jack, Derek, and Cat. "Derek, let's get all these kids back home." Zack said.

Derek looked at me, pulled Cat up and they all brought the kids in the cars. Zack picked up Thomas. "Avalon, you coming?" He asked me.

"I'm going to stay with Lily and thanks." I said to him. "We could skip lessons tomorrow. But I'll still see you tomorrow." He came over and kissed my cheek.

I smiled and told him night. "Jack, you going to go with them?" I asked him. "No, I'm waiting till Lily wakes up. It's my fault that she's in here." He said to me. "Well first off, it's not your fault, you didn't know what she was allergic to, just get comfy, we're going to be here for a while." I said sitting next to him.

I sat down next to him and he leaned his head on me and shut his eyes and took a quick nap.

My eyes kept shutting but I forced myself to stay awake till Lily woke up. It's been like two hours since everyone left. About like midnight.

A nurse came out and said Jack and I could see Lily. Jack and I got up and I swung my arm around him. When we walked into the room we saw Lily looking at us.

The nurse left and gave us some privacy. "Hey Lil." I said sitting on the bed next to her. "Where's everyone else?" She asked. "We had to get then home to get some rest." Jack said to her.

"Avalon, am I going to die?" She asked me. "No, no, no. It was just an allergic reaction to something that you ate. It made you sick so we had to bring you here. But tomorrow you'll be as good as ever." I said smiling at her.

"How about I bring you and everyone else out for ice cream tomorrow? Will that be good?" I asked her. She smiled and nodded.

"Is mommy here?" She asked us. "No, but how about we call her right now and you could talk to her." Lily nodded.

Jack took out his phone and dialed his mom's work number. A few minutes later his mom picked up.

Jack// Hey mom.
Michelle// Hey kiddo, how's Lily? My boss wouldn't let me off work to see her.
Jack// She's alright, she just wanted to talk to you.
Michelle// Put her on the phone please.
Lily// Hi mommy.
Michelle// Hi baby girl, how are you doing?
Lily// Well Avalon said I'm not going to die.
Michelle// Well thank goodness!
Lily// Avalon is also staying here with me in the emergency room until I can leave!
Michelle// Well that's good!
Lily// She's also bringing everyone and I out for ice cream tomorrow!
Michelle// Great! Are you going to get your famous chocolate and vanilla mix?
Lily// YES!
Michelle// YAY!
Lily// Mommy?
Michelle// Yes hun?
Lily// When are you coming home?
Michelle// Well I'll be coming home tomorrow night so see you then.
Lily// Okay.
Michelle// Lil can I talk to Avalon?
Avalon// Hey Michelle.
Michelle// I want to thank you for how good you are with the kids.
Avalon// No problem, Michelle. I'd do anything for these little rascals.
Michelle// Well I should get back to work, see you soon.
Avalon// Bye michelle.

She hung up and I gave Jack back his phone. "Lily why don't you get some rest." I said. She nodded and I kissed her forehead and she shut her eyes.

I sat on the couch beside Jack. "Thanks Avalon." He said as I leaned my head on him. "For what?" I asked shutting my eyes.

"For being such an amazing sister." He said to me.

"Anytime you little rascal." I said smiling. A few minutes later Jack fell asleep.

I couldn't sleep, thinking about what could've happened to Lily. It was about three in the morning when I fell asleep. I'm still so mad at Derek for leaving the kids home alone.
