Zabdiel paced the hallway, same way he had been for the past 3 hours. The sound of his sneakers distracting everyone momentarily from the beeping of the machines of other patients. It had been 6 and a half hours since they brought Aaliyah in and Zabdiel refused to sit still.

"I swear when i see him" Zabdiel said balling his fists up
"C'mon Zabdiel just sit down and calm down" Ray said softly
"Calm down? Calm- my girlfriend is in there getting god knows what done to her because her psychotic ex boyfriend broke into our house and- i was supposed to be there and protect her and" Zabdiel struggled to finish his sentence, his emotions getting the better of him

Ray shot up from her seat and embraced the tall boy as he sunk to his knees. The boys gave him a look of sympathy as Aleesha entered.

"So ma called and i told her Aaliyah couldn't come to the phone cause she was busy" Aleesha explained
"why didn't you tell her what happened?" Joel asked
"Because- can you imagine what that would do to her, knowing your child is in another country, frail and ill— i couldn't do that to her" Aleesha said looking down at her fingers
"You did what was right babe" Richard said giving her a hug
"don't you have an exam you're writing tomorrow?" Aleesha asked Ray
"Yeah but i'm not leaving until i see her" Ray said still rubbing Zabdiel's back as Erick gave him some water

As if on que the doctor came in and informed them that Aaliyah was out of surgery and rather awake. She had sustained a mild concussion because of the head bid to the fridge but because her body went into shock that's why she started bleeding as much as she did, but she was awake and ready to see some familiar faces.

The group cautiously went to her room, Zabdiel in front of them because they felt she would rather see him first. Upon entry Aaliyah's head shot towards the door at the noise of it opening. She smiled lightly as Zabdiel took her hand in his

"You scared me" He whispered
"I'm sorry, i didn't mean to it's ju-
"It's fine, i'm just glad that you're okay" Zabdiel said kissing her hand softly
"I'd never leave you, any of you" Aaliyah smiled "i mean who would make sure Ray and Aleesha don't get their nipples pierced or Christopher doesn't convince Erick to do something stupid or Richard doesn't knock Aleesha up or Joel doesn't sit too long in the mirror or you don't over spend on dumb things"
"wait so you mean to tell me you stopped Aleesha from getting her nipples pierced?" Richard asked "i'll never forgive you for that"
"i still don't care" Aaliyah said blowing Richard a kiss

The group made themselves comfortable around Aaliyah's hospital room, ordering food and chatting as though nothing happened. It was around 9pm when the nurse came in to kick them out because visiting hours were long over. Aaliyah bid her friends farewell before they left

They dropped Ray and Erick off at Ray's dorm because they had to get cracking for the long 3 weeks they had ahead of them and then made their way back to the old house.

"So we're clear to move into the new house?" Christopher asked
"Yeah, the moving truck is coming tomorrow morning" Joel answered
"then we best get cracking on packing our things up boys!" Richard said clapping his hands

Aleesha and Richard had finished with Richard's first box of things and she offered to take it downstairs. She put it on top of the other boxes and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. She entered, spotting Zabdiel on his knees on the very same spot Aaliyah had collapsed. He had a bucket and cloth, wiping up the blood

"Zabdiel you don't need to keep doing this to yourself" Aleesha sighed "she's okay"
"but what if she wasn't" Zabdiel said wiping the last of the blood up
"she is though" Aleesha countered "You seem to think Aaliyah's ordeal only affects you. well it doesn't. Ray and I could have lost our best friend and no ones asking how we are, but we suck it up and keep it moving"
"I just should have been there to protect her" Zabdiel sniffed "what if Ray hadn't called? what if we got there too late, what would he have done to her?"
"we don't know and we don't need to know because she's at the hospital and she's safe Zabdiel" Aleehsa assured "Now i'll finish cleaning up, go upstairs and get your things ready for the movers"

Zabdiel didn't argue. He got up and made his way to his room, pulling his phone out to see a missed facetime from Aaliyah
