Krishnaa walked back towards her home, feeling uneasy. Kanha's visit a few days back, had left her scared and confused. As usual, he spoke in riddles, he words making no sense to her. She only understood that something unpleasant was to come their way.
'What could it be? Will something happen to Parth? Or something unexpected is to happen at Indraprasth?'
Not being able to find the answer to his cryptic message, made her even more anxious. She wanted to demand as answer from Kanha, but he had abruptly left, without giving her a chance to speak. She gave up. Whatever it was, would have to be dealt with when it comes.
She was almost home, when she saw Parth pacing back and forth, looking upset. Confused, she went to him. "Parth?", she asked. "Is something wrong?" She reached out to hold his hand. "You tell me", his harsh voice made her flinch. She could see anger in his eyes. "What happened?", she asked again, softer, this time. "Why are you so angry at me?"
"So I shouldn't be angry?", he voice was unusually calm. Krishnaa immediately understood that he is really upset. "You hide about your past and struggles and then expect me to not be angry?", he nearly shouted. Krishnaa frowned. "What---?" "Don't even pretend to be clueless, Krishnaa. You very well know what I am talking about".
"How do you know?", she questioned. "Did Bhrata Drishtdyumn tell you?" "That doesn't matter. What matters is that it wasn't you who told me." "Why?", he asked after a short pause. "Why didn't you tell me that you were struggling?"
"I didn't want you to worry............", she replied timidly, trying not to aggravate him further. "Didn't want me to worry?", he sounded furious now. "I am going to be your husband, of course I am going to worry. It wasn't an excuse."
Krishnaa sighed. "There was honestly no need. I was managing just fine". Parth stared at her incredulously, not believing her words. "Just because you were doing fine, doesn't mean that you don't tell me. I would have helped you. There wasn't any reason for you to go through this by yourself. You needed help".
Now it was Krishnaa's turn to get annoyed. She was habituated to being independent, and she was far from pleased at anyone questioning her about it. "Are you implying that I am not capable of looking after myself?" "Don't twist my words, Krishnaa", he spoke angrily. "That isn't what I meant. All I am trying to say is that I should have been told this before. And by you, no one else."
"I said this before, I didn't want you to worry. I am happy now and that is all that matters. I don't need anybody's help", she reasoned. Parth sighed. "What is the matter, Krishnaa?", he asked softly, sounding hurt. "Don't you trust me enough to tell me. Does my concern mean nothing to you?"
"I didn't say that, Parth", she argued. "That phase of my life has passed, there was no need to remember it again and tell you". "So if tomorrow something happens, you won't find it necessary to even inform me, your husband?", his tone was back to angry again.
"Parth that isn't true. You have done the best thing possible for me. You have given me happiness. And a reason to live", she tried to calm him down. "Maybe I have. But did it once occur to you that I could have done more. Is even asking me for help embarrassing to you now? Did you not once think how I would feel?"
"Parth", she sighed. "I am not embarrassed. And I do trust you.....you know that very well. And I know that you would have helped me, but......." "But what?", he asked, impatiently. "Did you think what others would say?", she asked. "What do you mean?", he asked.
"I am with you, ready to marry you because I love you. For the person you are, not for your status, even when I wasn't aware of it." "I didn't want anyone, even you to think that I am with you for wealth........", she fumbled.
"Since when do you care about what other people say?", he questioned her. "And they aren't a part of our relation, so it doesn't matter. And as for me, why would I ever think like that about you? Do you really think that I don't deserve to know?" "Parth......." "And what about now", he didn't let her speak. "You could still tell me after coming to Indraprasth."
"But there was no need to", Krishnaa nearly shouted. Parth sighed. "Just think about it Krishnaa, if our places were switched, and I didn't tell you if I was going through something, would you like it?"
"And if you were in my place, would have told me? Knowing that I would be unnecessarily worried?", Krishnaa countered.
They both stood there, staring at each other for a while. Both were upset. Krishnaa turned around and stormed back home without sparing him a glance.
She was genuinely upset. She was a proud woman. She could handle everything herself because that is how it has always been. Parth would have undoubtedly helped her, but what about her? She may have been poor, but had her own dignity.
She sat on the wooden floor by her bed fuming angrily.
******************* So, I decided to write an argument since realistically, no couple goes this long without a single argument.
