Krishnaa sat at the threshold of her house, reading a book. She enjoyed reading. She could easily relate to the characters, know their story and find herself in the pale pages. It was her escape from the real world.
She was lost in the words of the book, when she felt two warm hands cover her eyes. She smiled recognize the person.
"Where have you been?! You didn't come to meet me for months!" She exclaimed, in a false angry tone.
She turned around to find two mischievous yet innocent eyes staring back at her.
There was her best friend, Krishn or Kanha as she liked to call him.
"I wanted to", he said innocently. "But maiya didn't let me. And you know, I can never disobey my maiya". "Oh don't try to fool me. I know you are not that innocent", she commented.
"You are really doubting me?!" he said in a surprised tone, making a sad innocent face. Krishnaa just rolled her eyes at him. "Am I forgiven if I tell you that I have a gift for you?", he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"A gift?", her voice held excitment.
Kanha nodded and pointed at a pot. Krishnaa gave him a bright smile and started eating makhan from the pot.
She met Kanha two years back and instantly became his best friend. He was the most mysterious person she had ever known but ironically, he was the one she trusted the most.
She didn't know much about him other than that he was from Vrindavan. She didn't know why he came to the colony or why he even befriended her.
She tried asking him several times but always got cryptic answers. He was a confusing person.
Sometimes he was as wise as a sage and sometimes as mischievous as a child. He had a laid back personality but it always seemed like he was working towards a greater good.
"What are you thinking about?", his voice broke her thoughts.
"You", she replied. "What about me?" "You always seem to have a reason to do something. And an explanation for what is happening. You seem to have a purpose in life."
"Doesn't everyone have a purpose?", he said in a profound manner. "Not really",she answered. "I mean look at me. I am just aimlessly living my life."
"That's where you are wrong ", he spoke wisely. "Trust me, you are destined for greater things".
"Trust. And that too you?" She said in a joking manner. Their conversation went from serious to light hearted in a second.
Kanha chuckled. "Trust me, you will find a special purpose with a special someone", he said winking at her. They both knew who he was talking about. Krishnaa blushed.
'Oh God, he knows', she thought feeling embarrassed. 'Oh well of course he does, why wouldn't he?'
Kanha continued teasing her for the rest of the day.
