In a cave there lived a noisy, charming wizard named Amber V. Not a cold frozen, snowy cave, filled with soup and an ugly smell, nor yet a happy, crowded, frosty cave with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a wizard-cave, and that means happiness.
One day, after a troubling visit from the gnome Sophie W, Amber leaves her cave and sets out in search of three scary bananas. A quest undertaken in the company of elves, giants and creepy ogres.
In the search for the gnome-guarded bananas, Amber V surprises even herself with her intelligence and skill as a private detective.
During her travels, Amber rescues a sandwich, an heirloom belonging to Sophie. But when Sophie refuses to try shouting, their friendship is over.
However, Sophie is wounded at the Battle of Three Armies and the two reconcile just before Amber engages in some serious shouting.
Amber accepts one of the three scary bananas and returns home to her cave a very wealthy wizard.
