Ky'Mon's Room 👆
Tiesha was at the park with her best friend, Koko, and the kids.
The afternoon sun hung low, casting a warm golden hue over everything.
They’d spread out a soft, patterned picnic mat on the grass, and the kids—Esther and Daquan—were busy playing and exploring the space between the grown-ups.
The faint laughter of children blended with distant chatter, birdsong, and the gentle rustle of leaves swaying in the breeze.
Esther, barely a year old but already fiercely independent, started crawling away from the mat, her little hands stretching forward as she explored.
Tiesha immediately reached out, pulling her back before she could get too far.
“So, he’s mad at you?” Koko’s voice broke the quiet as she sipped her juice, eyes flicking between Tiesha and the toddler.
“Yeah,” Tiesha muttered, her tone flat. “And ion know why.”
Koko shook her head, smirking knowingly. “Girl, he’s mad you flushing out his seeds.”
Tiesha rolled her eyes hard. “That’s nonsense, Koko.”
But Esther wasn’t done. She began to crawl away again, intent on her mission. Tiesha pulled her back once more, catching the little pout on her face.
Esther turned toward Daquan, who was waiting patiently with a mischievous grin. Without hesitation, Daquan reached out, grabbed Esther’s chubby cheeks, and rubbed them gently.
The innocent, sweet moment almost made Tiesha’s heart swell.
“Daquan’s hair be growing,” Tiesha commented casually, reaching over to play with the boy’s curls. They were soft and thick, starting to catch the sunlight.
“Yeah,” Koko replied, “Lowe said he wanna keep it.”
Tiesha raised an eyebrow and smiled. “So, how’s you and Lowe?”
“We planning to get married soon,” Koko said, her eyes sparkling. “Babe, let’s get married on the same day.”
Tiesha laughed softly, the sound light and genuine, and nodded. There was comfort in knowing some things were moving forward, even if hers felt stuck.
But Esther, ever the explorer, was already attempting another escape. Tiesha glared, frustration bubbling beneath her calm exterior.
“Why can’t your ass sit down?” she muttered under her breath.
“Look,” Koko pointed, “I think she’s looking at that.”
Tiesha followed the direction of her friend’s finger and stood up, lifting Esther carefully onto her hip. She walked slowly toward the object of the toddler’s fascination.
It was a tiny puppy, curled up in the grass.
Koko appeared beside her. “Your baby found a puppy.”
“Yeah… a dead one,” Tiesha said, kicking the little thing gently with her foot.
To her surprise, the puppy moved—a slow, weak blink of its eyes.
