Days later, Tiesha sat cross-legged on the living room floor, laptop balanced on her knees.
Esther rested comfortably in her arms, tiny fingers occasionally reaching out with innocent grabby hands.
The glow from the screen illuminated their faces in the dim afternoon light.
“Honey, look at Daddy,” Tiesha urged softly, pointing at the laptop screen.
Esther giggled, squealing as she waved her tiny hands toward the screen, mesmerized by the moving image.
On the other side of the screen, Ky’Mon smiled warmly. “Hey, mamas,” he said, voice thick with tenderness.
Esther laughed again, louder this time, causing Tiesha’s heart to swell.
“I miss you both,” Ky’Mon said, eyes flickering with longing.
“We miss you too,” Tiesha replied, voice barely above a whisper.
Ky’Mon’s gaze sharpened as he scrutinized Esther’s little face. “What’s that on her cheek?”
“A mosquito bit her,” Tiesha explained without hesitation.
“In the house?” Ky’Mon frowned, the protective instinct clear in his tone.
“We went to the park,” Tiesha said quickly, anticipating his next move. “Before you say anything—I went with the Elites. I just needed some fresh air.”
Ky’Mon’s glare pierced through the screen, but he held his tongue.
“And we can’t wait to have Daddy back tomorrow, right baby?” she asked, looking down at Esther, who smiled up at her in response.
Ky’Mon chuckled softly. “I can’t wait to be home, Lil mama.”
“And get me some Mexican dish, straight from the source. I’m craving some,” Tiesha added, a teasing smile playing on her lips.
Ky’Mon arched an eyebrow, skeptical.
“What?” she said, feigning innocence.
“You craving food, huh?” he teased.
Tiesha rolled her eyes, understanding exactly what he meant.
“It’s not that,” she said firmly.
“I had that pussy just—”
“If I was pregnant, it wouldn’t show this early, but I’m not pregnant. I’ve got an IUD in me,” she cut him off.
Ky’Mon smacked his lips, nodding slowly.
“I want another baby,” he said simply.
“She isn’t even a year old yet,” Tiesha replied, amused.
“If you let me cum in you this week without protection, she’s gonna be past a year old when you give birth,” Ky’Mon said with a cocky grin.
“Still too early, but we’ll talk about it when you get back,” Tiesha smiled.
“Okay. I love you, Lil mama. And I love you, mamas,” he said, blowing kisses as the call ended.
Tiesha turned to Esther, brushing a soft kiss on her cheek. Teaching her poems was becoming their ritual, and the “I Love You” song from Barney and Friends was Esther’s favorite. She danced and giggled, always finishing with a tight hug and a slobbery kiss.
Later that night, Tiesha lay in bed, Esther cradled in her arms, the room cloaked in shadows.
The quiet absence of Ky’Mon gnawed at her—the missed touch, his scent lingering faintly on the oversized shirt she wore.
