It was the middle of the night.
The low hum of the city outside seeped through the windows, a constant reminder of the life Tiesha and Ky’Mon lived—dangerous, unpredictable, always on edge.
Ky’Mon stood by the bedroom window, his back turned to her, phone pressed tight to his ear as he spoke with cold authority.
“I run this shit, don’t threaten me, Mikky,” he said, voice low and steady but charged with steel.
Tiesha lay on the bed behind him, the dim light casting long shadows on the walls. She watched silently, the tension thick enough to choke.
“Nah, you back off. Don’t be doing shit on my turf and claiming right.”
Ky’Mon laughed, a deep, dangerous sound that echoed through the room.
“You can’t kill me. It finna take you five years to plan before you can kill me.”
There was a pause, then the voice on the other end spat out words laced with venom:
“Yes, I killed your sister. There ain’t two fucks you can do about that.”
Ky’Mon’s grip on the phone tightened.
“Oh, then imma see you try to get my family. Fuck off.”
Ky’Mon turned slowly toward the bed, eyes sharp and calculating. He slid back under the covers beside Tiesha, a flicker of surprise crossing his face when their eyes met.
“You heard all that?” he asked quietly, voice softer now.
Tiesha nodded, swallowing hard. She curled onto her side, staring at him in the dim light.
“Ky’Mon, I’m scared.”
“Of what, Lil mama?” His hand reached out, fingers brushing a stray hair from her forehead.
“Everything,” she whispered. “I’m scared someone is going to take Esther. I’m scared of this dangerous life we’re living.”
Ky’Mon sighed deeply, rolling onto his back and resting both hands behind his head, eyes fixed on the ceiling as if searching for answers.
“I can’t leave it, Tiesha. Even if I wanted to, I can’t no more. I’m way too deep in. They don’t just call me King for nothing. I own the whole city.”
She swallowed the lump in her throat, tracing her fingers lightly over his bare chest.
“But you have so many enemies. People who want to kill you.”
“That’s why I can’t leave all this,” he said quietly. “This is how I protect you and Esther. Even if we leave the country, people will still be after me.”
Tiesha exhaled slowly, the weight of his words sinking in.
“Don’t worry, Lil mama,” Ky’Mon said, voice softer, “I got more allies than foes.”
“That’s not true,” she challenged. “Remember the robbery at that bank? They stole it fair and square, and you stole it from them. You think that person ain’t mad at you?”
Ky’Mon smirked, shaking his head like it was obvious.
“I didn’t steal the money. I collected it from the person who stole it.”
Tiesha rolled her eyes at his twisted logic.
“So you think—”
“Look, Lil mama, nobody gonna know it was me. I took the Elites.”
“The Elites?” She frowned, looking up at him.
“Yeah,” he said, voice low. “They’re my personal, trusted men. Nobody knows they work for me, so I call them the Elites.”
