Chapter Thirty One
________________

"And that's how it ended." I said, playing around with the glasses from the rack in the store.

Once I returned home, the first person I received a text from was Janet. She claimed to have been texting me while I was gone, trying to plan a day for us to go shopping and catch up on things since we've been separated from each other for some time.

I assured her that it wasn't me ignoring her and explained how terrible the service is on that side of Seattle and she understood.

Expecting my mother to stop me from going out with Janet, I hesitated on asking because I had only been back home for two days and I've been avoiding her after putting the messy puzzle together between my father and my mother.

While we were on our way home, nobody spoke. Even when we got to the house everyone was quiet; my father stayed in his study and my mother sat outside, on the phone discussing the renovations with the exterior designer.

I didn't want to bother her while she was having her conversation, so I chose a route that didn't make my stomach turn.

I asked my dad.

When I knocked on his door, I believe he expected my mother to come around and bother him because the agitation was evident in his voice when he invited me in. But when he realized that it was me, his eyes widened in shock and he quickly stood up while simultaneously removing his glasses.

Before he could say anything to me, I slid the question out of my mouth. Due to the fact that I was still mad at him, I didn't want to continue a full blown conversation with him and I'm sure he noticed because he only said one word, which was yes.

I mumbled a thank you before spinning around on my heels and walking out of the door. The thought of how I've been treating him brings an immense amount of pain to my heart, but he needs to know how much this situation is not only affecting their marriage... it's affecting me, too.

About thirty minutes later, Janet arrived at my house. I was a bit cautious about leaving because I knew my mother would say something if she caught me, and I wasn't in the best mood to have any confrontations with her.

Throughout the ride to the mall and when we made it to our destination, I explained the whole trip to Janet, informing her on the progression that has occurred with me and Harry's odd relationship.

The story ended with the lake and how Harry gave me the chain his mother passed on to him. That moment is still hard to digest because of the meaning behind the chain. I feel the need to protect it with my whole entire heart and live up to what I'm destined to be in this world.

I don't get what truly makes me different from other women and why he chose to give me that gift even though we aren't dating. I mean: He said he knows he'll never come across another person like me, but I believe that's a lie. There's many intelligent and better looking women out there that have their lives set.
