Carson tried not to act as awkward as possible. She just gently tapped Theo's hand on her right shoulder.

"It's fine." She smiled and looked at him. "Did you find Paolo?"

He nodded. "Yeah. They'll be here in a few."

"Cool." She said. Saka lang naalala ng dalaga tingnan ang mga kasama nila sa mesa. If it's a different situation, she would laugh at them. But that isn't the right thing to do now. She cleared her throat before speaking. "Everyone, this is Theo. Theo, these are my grade school classmates."

"It's nice to meet you, guys." Bati ng binata sa mga naroon at isa isang kinamayan ang mga ito. "I hope it's fine if I squeeze in tonight."

"No, not at all!" Addie answered. "Go and take the seat beside Carson. We really saved some chairs para sa mga darating pa."

She saw him smiled and sat on the chair beside her.

"It's nice to see you again, Theo." Sammie said that made everyone look at her.

Theo's eyebrows raised. "Again? We've met?"

And there goes Sammie's irritating laugh. Napaikot ng mata si Carson.

"Oh, not really but I've seen you a couple of times already. Madalas sa parties ng friends ko." Sagot ng babae.

Theo nodded. "I see."

"Small world no? Imagine, I didn't know you are Carson's boyfriend. How long have you two been together?"

Sammie and her chismosa self. Halata sa mukha ng babae na hindi ito natutuwa sa sitwasyon nila ngayon. And she's just trying to hide the irritation by gently rolling the champagne in the wine glass.

"Well---" Carson attempted to start the explanation, but Theo cut him off.

"No." He said, that made everyone looked confused. And that didn't even help at all. Naroon na nga sya at unti unti nang nagigisa tapos ganoon pa ang isinagot ng binata. Not that she wants him to lie to everyone - like how they used to do – pero parang ganoon na nga.

"Not yet." He continued. "But I'm trying to win her heart and you know, I hope at the end of the day, I'd get a yes from her." Nilingon pa sya nito with all smiles pa.

Ni hindi magawang suklian ni Carson iyon ng ngiti dahil sa kabang nararamdaman nya.

"Hindi naman pala sila magboyfriend." Sumbat ni Sammie kay Addie. "You are spreading fake news."

Addie rolled her eyes. "Eh pasasaan ba at doon din naman papunta yun? Hindi ka ba nakikinig? He's courting Carson."

"Whatever."

Unti-unti nang nagsubside ang tension sa paligid.

Well, mukhang si Carson lang naman ang tensyonado. Mukhang nag-eenjoy naman ang lahat. Nagsimula na nga ang kwentuhan. Lalo pang nadagdagan ang ingay nang dumating ang grupo ni Paolo. Bilang anak ng may-ari ng school nila, ito na ang halos namamahala sa buong school kaya isa ito sa punong abala sa homecoming na iyon.

"I actually didn't know that you'll come here with Carson." Sabi ni Paolo. "I mean, iba ang naiisip kong kasabay nyang darating eh."

Natawa ang dalaga. "Si Tupe? Naku, baka nga ikaw pa ang dahilan kung bakit hindi sya pupunta. Natrauma yata sa pambubully mo dati."

Everybody laughed.

"Hey, that was a long time ago. I'm a changed man now. Napatawad naman na siguro ako ng kaibigan mo." Sagot ng kaklase.
