The rest of the evening went by pretty slow. Avah is asleep right now and I can't take my eyes off of her.
I know soon we will have a baby. I'm secretly wishing he looks like me but I really don't care either way.
Between Jody and Gray, I haven't even been able to take a nap. Every time I shut my eyes one of them texts.
A couple of hours later the nurse walks back in and checks Avah and tells her she's now at five centimeters.
The contractions are starting to get more intense and I can't stand to see my wife in so much pain and there is nothing I can do to help her.
"Levi I think I need an epidural I can't take all this pain. My back hurts so bad." She said.
"Let me go ask the nurse ok?" I said walking out of the room to the nurse station.
I spot the nurse and she smiles. "Umm Avah is asking for an epidural if that's possible," I ask.
"Sure I'll put the call in and we will get it going." She smiled.
"Thank you so much!" I said"
"Your welcome Mr. Reese." She smiled and picked up the phone.
When she walks back into the room she's smiling and checks Avah once again and she's made it up to six centimeters.
"What is your name? You have been the sweetest nurse." Avah said.
"Susie." She smiles and pats Avah's arm.
Wasn't long until a couple of people walk into the room and announce they are going to do the epidural.
I stood in front of Avah as they had her bent forward inserting the epidural needle.
"Ouch, that really hurt," Avah said.
I kissed the side of her face. "Hey, you remember how blue that water was in Fiji?" I asked her.
"Oh, it was so beautiful. I would love to go back one day Levi." She smiled.
They finished the epidural while I had her distracted and she was able to lay back in the bed.
"I will be back to check on you in a little bit," Susie said.
"Thank you!" I said to her and sit back in the chair to answer more text from Jody and Gray. Then I closed my eyes which seemed like a minute when I was woke up to Susie walking back in the room.
"I'm sorry to wake you guys but we need to check and see where you are." She said.
I watched her as she put her hand under Avah's gown. "You're now at nine centimeters not too much longer Avah."
"Oh thank god! I feel so worn out already." She laughed.
Susie came back in with blueberry ice chips. "Just suck on them slowly ok?"
"Will do but I'm starving," Avah said.
"Gray said after Alex is born he will bring you a big burger," I said.
"Oh, I want that burger now with cheese fries tell him don't forget the cheese." She laughs.
"I won't forget babe. Just rest ok? Because you are going to have your hands full soon." I smile.
"I can't wait! I hope he looks like you Levi." She smiled.
An hour passes and Susie came back in to check Avah again. "Alright guys we are at ten centimeters and it's time to push. Let me go get Doctor Smith." She said.
"Oh, Levi I'm so nervous. What if I don't do it right?" She said.
"Avah baby there is no wrong way to do this. You will be great and I'm right here with you all the way!" I said kissing her forehead as doctor Smith walks in.
"You guys ready to have a baby?" She smiles.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Avah nervously laughed.
"Alright Avah your husband is on one side and me on the other and when I tell you to push I need you to hold your breath and we will count to ten and you push ok?" Susie said.
"Ok, I can do that." She said.
I wink at her and watch as doctor Smith sits on a stool staring at my wife's vagina which is weird and I don't remember any of this with Violet because Courtney had a c-section.
"Ok Avah give me a big push!" Susie said.
Avah pushed five times when his head come out.
"Avah I can see his head and he has so much hair." I smile.
Avah pushes two more times and Alex comes out screaming. My eyes are welled up with tears when I see my own face staring back at me.
I cut the cord and they clean him up and weigh him. I walk over to Avah and lean down and kiss her lips. "You did so great momma."
Alexander Levi Reece came into the world at 7:32 am the following day weighing in at 9lbs 2oz. He's a big ole boy. My boy!
When they place Alex in Avah's arms my heart just exploded with so much love. I can't wait for everyone to see him.

"Well, a bunch of families will be here soon." I laugh.
"Levi come hold your son." Avah smiled.
When I took him out of her arms I just felt complete. I looked down at the little face that looks like my own and smile. "Oh, Violet is so going to love you, Alex," I said kissing his head.
