"Good morning, class!" the Herbology teacher's loud voice rings out around the greenhouse.
"Good morning, Professor Sprout," everyone chants back to her.
"Today we will be moving on from Knotgrass and beginning to learn about the Bouncing Bulb. Who can tell me— Olivia!" Professor Sprout calls upon the pretty brown-haired girl.
"The Bouncing Bulb is a magical plant which jumps around if not restrained. The Bouncing Bulb's main stem is a disproportionate purple bulb, with a bunch of leaves growing on the top. Young Bouncing Bulbs are small enough to handle, but mature ones can reach the size of doorways," Olivia says with a smile.
"Excellent, excellent, that is correct! Take ten points for Ravenclaw! Is there anything— yes, Isaac?" Professor Sprout asks, amused.
"Bouncing Bulbs can be aggressive when they feel threatened; they jump towards the possible attacker and try to hit it. And a fun fact: Bouncing Bulbs are a necessary ingredient in the Pompion Potion, a potion which encases the drinker's head in a pumpkin," the dark Hufflepuff boy says with a grin.
"That's right! Ten points to Hufflepuff!" Professor Sprout exclaims.
"Another thing we ought to know about these plants is that a simple Knockback Jinx can stop a young Bulb, but a mature one will require using the Fire-Making Spell to whither it, because it is quite strong. These two spells are what we are going to be practising for this lesson, so everyone get into pairs and take your wands out!" Professor Sprout instructs.
Tonks and Isabelle immediately get together, spending the rest of the lesson shooting those two spells at each other, taking it in turns to attack and defend themselves.
The lesson flies by, being Isabelle's last Herbology lesson before her trip to Tibet with her Care of Magical Creatures class, and soon the French girl finds herself walking down to the Forest meeting up with Charlie and the other two members of her class.
Over the past two weeks, Isabelle has taught them all to duel like her, and now they're all nearly as good as she is, much better than they all were before, which pleased Professor Kettleburn very much.
Isabelle's brilliance for duelling spread quickly around the school, and Maisie of course, being the best dueller out of all the seventh-years, made the French girl go head-to-head against her. Half the school went to see the duel, and Maisie was so impressed by Isabelle's skill that she didn't even mind losing.
Along with practising and bettering their duelling, the four students in Care of Magical Creatures learnt how to fight in hand-to-hand combat, both with and without weapons, practising fighting without wands.
Isabelle had a head start in that category, having done fencing at Beauxbatons, but Charlie was exceptionally good as well, and the two of them made it a contest, going head-to-head at the end of every lesson.
Half the time, Charlie resolved the fight by lifting Isabelle up and slinging her over his shoulder, before dropping her and pinning her to the ground, causing her to break into laughter. The other half of the time, however, Isabelle managed to use her agility to trip Charlie up, knocking him over and pointing her blade at his neck, preventing him from rising again.
Professor Flitwick, the little Charms teacher, joined them for one lesson, teaching them several different ways to produce fire from their wands, each of the four students practising until they were able to rapid fire out each of the different spells nonverbally in quick succession.
Professor Kettleburn taught them all how to make a fire the Muggle way as well, using sticks and straw. Charlie was the best at that, managing to make a roaring fire on the first day, but by the end of the two weeks, everyone else in the class had built a Muggle fire at least once.
