The Truth II

Steven learns the truth.

"Steven, I think it's about time we talked."

Steven looked at Yellow, who along with Blue, were sitting at the kitchen table.

"Yea?" Steven walked over, sitting at the kitchen table with them.

"Me and Yellow have been talking, and we've decided to talk about... everything," Blue said.

"Why can't we wait until White comes back?" Steven asked.

"It's honestly best if she's not here for this," Yellow said.

"What if she doesn't come back?" Steven asked.

"White always comes back," Yellow said. "But this conversation, it's absolutely necessary, because it's the story, our story, as Diamonds."

Steven gasped. "I'm gonna learn about your past!!"

"Yes," Blue said. "Get comfortable, cause this is not a happy story."

Steven nodded as he settled in.

"There's a reason there are only four diamonds," Yellow said. "We aren't like other gems. We make up a group known as the Diamond Authority. With White as the leader, we rule the gem empire."

Steven's eyes went wide. "YOU rule homeworld?!"

"Yes," Yellow said. "White was in charge overall. I was a general, the commander of our armies. Blue was a diplomat who would go to other planets and negotiate. And you, well, your mother, she... was different."

"How so?" Steven asked.

"Pink had a mind of her own," Yellow said. "But us Diamonds, especially White, did not like that. We punished her... harshly, for essentially being herself."

"Which we regret," Blue said.

"Yes," Yellow nodded in agreement. "As Diamonds, along with ruling the empire, were tasked with expanding it. We would conquer planets all over the cosmos and use them to create new gems. These planets, which we called colonies, were something Pink dreamed of having. She begged and begged for a colony until we finally gave in."

"Then, she told us that life was precious and we shouldn't be colonizing planets anymore," Blue said. "We ignored her, and that pushed her to the edge."

"She ran away to Earth with her Pearl and started a war for Earth's independence," Yellow said. "She and a group of gems formed a rebellion. This rebellion became known as the crystal gems."

Steven then remembered the painting he saw in Yellow's room.

"Pink denounced herself as a diamond, and we went to war with her. Eventually, she had enough, and that's when she faked her shattering," Yellow said. "She had a bubble containing a note and fake shards sent to us. After that, me, Blue, and White were so furious, that we... corrupted all the gems on Earth."

Steven gasped. "You corrupted the gems?!"

"We were blinded by rage, much as White was blinded by rage when she shattered Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl," Blue said. "We've all done some... atrocious things in our past. I don't think we would've ever cared about Earth if it weren't for Pink."

It was silent for a moment.

"Steven, are you ok?" Yellow asked. "With... this?"

"I'm fine," Steven said. "But... thanks for telling me. I really appreciate it."

"You're welcome, Steven," Yellow smiled.

White didn't want to come back, but she knew she had to.

She looked at the warp pad with sorrow. Taking a step, she got back on it. She took a deep breath, and finally warped away.

When the light faded, she found herself back in the temple.

"WHITE!!"

Steven, Blue, and Yellow all ran up to her. Steven jumped up, hugging her.

"Steven!!" White smiled, holding him in her arms.

"White, I thought you weren't coming back!!" Steven cried.

"What?! That's, that's ridiculous!! I wasn't even gone that long!!" White said, bewildered.

"You weren't, but to him you were," Yellow said.

"White, we told him," Blue said.

White paused. "What?"

"We told him," Blue repeated. "Who we really are."

White felt the color drain from her skin. She looked at Steven, who was looking right back at her.

"Steven, I..." White breathed. "Oh stars." She slowly put him down on the ground. He stood there, not realizing she'd react like this.

"White, are you ok?" Yellow asked.

"I'm fine," White said. "I was just hoping I'd be able to have that conversation with him too."

"Oh- we're sorry," Blue said.

"No no, it's ok," White said. "I'm glad he knows now. We don't need to hide who we are anymore. Just... Steven, if you have any questions about... me, just know, I'm here."

Steven smiled. "Thank you, White."
