Coming in early better pay off." I mutter to myself as I walk into the art room, ruffling my hair a little before walking towards the back of the class.
I put on my art smock and get my supplies, the pipes squeaking as I get water for my paints. I grab some brushes as well and head to my easel.
"So Chris what are you going to paint.." I whisper to myself, trying to think of something to put on the easel.
My train of thought derails when I hear some whispering outside the classroom. I quietly sneak to the doorway and peek my head out of the door.
To my surprise, I see one of my old friends Dan, talking to a rather shady looking boy, and they continue whispering for a bit.
"Look, do you want the weed or not?" The shady guy asks Dan just over a whisper, loud enough for me to hear.
Wait. Drugs? I never imagined Dan to go so low as to do drugs, he's always been a good kid, nice family, good grades, lot's of friends, so why drugs? What led him to that..?
"I..I guess. I mean if it'll help me focus more and help with my headaches.." He rubs his shoulder with his opposite hand, looking around.
"It will, I promise." The guy says reassuringly.
"I don't know.. I shouldn't. My parents will kill me.." Dan murmurs, shuffling his feet a little and looking down. The shady boy grips his shoulders tightly, Dan's head snaps back up as it happens.
"Come on, I need the money." He whines, "Plus, they don't have to find out."
"No.. I shouldn't.. I'm sorry ." Dan says, turning to leave.
"No no please come on, just a little bit please just buy a little bit." The guy pleads.
"I'm a good kid, Liam. I don't wanna ruin that. I was never into drugs and I don't want to start now."
He turns to walk away one more time, when Liam's fist makes contact with his face. Dan stumbles back, holding his face.
"You little-" Dan starts but is cut off by another punch, this time to the gut.
Liam walks forward as Dan doubles over and falls to the ground, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"I told you to just buy some, this wouldn't have happened if-"
I can't take it anymore, and I run towards Liam as fast I can, slamming my body hard into him, tackling him to the ground.
The adrenaline rushes through my veins as the boy under me struggles to breathe. He goes to put me in a head lock, but Dan, who has since gotten up and rolled up his sleeves, holds Liam's arms down. After a while Liam stops struggling and lays there. I think I might have knocked him unconscious.
"Thanks Chris." Dan mutters.
"No problem, I don't mind helping an old friend. I'm just glad you didn't take those drugs." I reply.
Suddenly a security guard comes out of no where. We don't notice his presence until Dan looks behind me.
"M-me too." He says quietly, looking up.
"All three of you. Office. Now." I snap my head back to see the guard behind us.
"Y-yes sir." We reply in unison.
I slowly get off of Liam, hesitantly helping him off of the ground, and Dan walks beside me as we start heading to the office.
Before we get to the office, I notice the Dan and Liam have snuck off. I try to tell the guard but he obviously doesn't care, as he just keeps walking when I mention that the other boys are gone.
