Alice Culpeper

I open my eyes and yawn as the sunlight peeks through the blinds in my dorm room. As I sit up and stretch, I spot a note on the ground which appears to have been slipped under the door.

I slowly get out of bed and put on my slippers before walking to the door. Who would have sent me a note? Is it even for me? I think to myself. I feel a bit of nervousness as I pick up the note and read it.

Congratulations! You have been chosen to participate in Capitol Hill's first ever in-school enrichment program. Your parents have been notified of this offer and have given their permission for you to participate in the program for the next 2-3 months, and are aware of why you will not be coming home for March break this year.

Please pack one backpack sized bag of clothing or any other essentials you feel you will need, as a part of the experiment includes not leaving the programs designated buildings for the duration of the program.

No electronics of any kind, including cellphones, laptops, tablets or other Personal Electronic Devices will not be permittedm only in-school computers, with permission may be used. These PED's may be dropped off at the front office before making your way to the buildins, which can be found through your map. Any student found harbouring a PED will be immediately expelled from the program and the school facility.

You will have your own room, which can be found through your gender and the number in which you have been assigned. All students must be within the buildings and in their room by 5om, any students not, will be immediately expelled from the program and school facility.

This experiment is a competition, the winner of which will recieve full scholarship to the university or college of their choice upon graduation. Good luck, and congratulations!!

Wow. I was chosen to compete in something? Well that's new. I reread the letter a few times just to check certain details.

"Alright, no phone, gotta be there by five.." I say to myself, reading it over one final time before putting in on my desk and getting ready to pack.

I'm so excited yet nervous, I almost forgot about the one thing I can't bring with me.

Chris.

I get my phone out and start texting him, but he's probably not even up yet.

Hey babe, can we talk somewhere? -Alice xx

I start packing some of my things, including a skirt, a pair of shorts, some comfy jeans, sweats, a couple shirts, as well as a light sweater, before getting a reply from Chris.

Sure darling, I wanted to talk too, I miss you xx - Chris xx

I get a little nervous as I read his text. What does he want to talk about? What if he's breaking up with me? It's probably nothing Alice, don't worry, I think to myself.

We decided to meet at the park in a few minutes, so I shower and throw on something cute, then head out to meet with Chris.

When I get to the park, I spot him sitting on a bench, and he stands up when he sees me.

"Hey darling." Chris says, greeting me with a smile that's not as big as usual, and he pulls me into a tight hug, like he's not planning on letting go. I hug him back just as tight, wishing I never had to let go.

"Hey." I practically whisper, trying to sound as happy as possible.

We sit down and he holds both of my hands, gazing into my eyes. I can't make out the expression on his face. I have never seen it before, and it worries me.
